2025-2026 offseason thread

the point was to compare to other teams and to do that, you have to set criteria that fits the data you have available AND to point to a teams DRAFTING philosophy. So adding international guys would take away from the comparison because that is not even among all teams (one team could sign 4 players while another signs no one) plus the Braves had several years of no Inter guys.. as far as Fried, you can't add him because you can't query all the teams that traded for a guy in A ball and mostly developed him.. how do you even determine those parameters..

Meta's point is valid and he backed it up with data that was readily available and even across the league. Folks griping about one player here and there doesn't detract from that.
I think the point is worthless unless you use onky AA draftees as the sample. I mean, we shouldn't draft pitchers bc all the GMs before AA didn't succeed seems dumb. Our rotation has at least 2 homegrown guys in it that are projected at 2.5 to 3 fWAR. And who knows what Waldrep does.

As good as Hanson was early, we didn’t ever get to see him at his peak. He was throwing even harder in the minors. The velo started to dip as he was debuting. He was absolutely filthy.

I would imagine the coaching in the minor leagues has remained somewhat consistent throughout these GMs. Development still matters post draft

it spanned at least 2 GM's prior to AA.. but yes, every GM and especially scouts will be different in finding talent. Development is hopefully different as well.. but keeping pitchers healthy seems to be the same or worse.

his minor league numbers were crazy

I remember checking them every 5 days and they just got better and better

That whole rotation got the surgical hex and they were all super young
Man we dreamed of anything remotely close to the next Glav Madd Smoltz.

We had Minor, Medlen, Beachy, Hanson, and Jurrjens/Tehearn.

Sigh. Beachy threw the ball so effortless. And McCann being one of the highest rated framers in his prime plus Beachy's command. Mac had to barely move his mitt. Its actually quite impressive Beachy was throwing 92-93 and getting guys to strike out swinging. But that's probably because his sequencing and command were so good.

Edit: Revising this since I was going off Feb. 11 the whole time.

17 days until pitchers and catchers report. Today would be a great day for AA to add a good pitcher.

If AA doesn't add another reliable arm, he's going to seriously regret it in a few months. I'm sure he's trying, but dude has got to get aggressive over the next two weeks or so. Just fucking do it.

It sounded like he had a deal for Peralta worked out but they went with the Mets when an extension couldn't be reached.
