Some Red State/Blue State Indicia

So... ignoring federal immigration law in regard to the Constitution is standing up for it?
Minneapolis is standing up against a form of policing that is unconstitutional. Immigration law can and has been enforced in ways that are consistent with the constitution. Si se puede.

Those of us who care about the constitution are grateful for the fortitude of the people of Minnesota.

You're out of your mind.

Why do you think on DAY 1 that VA democrats pushed to end mandatory sentencing laws? Why was that something they aggressively persued?
Because everything is a seesaw now. They use mandatory sentencing laws for things that I agree are unjust as well. I wish there’d be better restraint on these things.

I think there’s certain cases where it is reasonable: say an undiagnosed and isolated schizophrenic person goes crazy and kills someone because the voices told them to. I don’t think that person deserves to simply rot in prison forever. I wouldn’t let them right back out on the street, but I wouldn’t think life in prison is the right answer either.

I don’t think it should be applied in the manner in which it was here.
This is a fair response. So let me ask why you think someone else would want to release this person? What do you think the motivation would be in this specific case?

I think there are plausible motivations that run from overzealously applying statutes designed to protect those that commit crimes while not perfectly sane to judicial activism designed to reduce incarceration all the way to corruption/kickbacks from mental health facilities. I don’t think there are many, if any judges that want to put murderers back on the street, but we have processes in place if the DA is unsatisfied with the ruling of a judge.
