Ritchie was supposedly the main piece in it and if AA could have worked out an extension it would have happened.

it is dumb to make an extension part of a trade criteria. That players future earnings is not part of the deal and should not be consider when making a deal with said team. Just another almost added to the long list of almost the Braves missed out on.

I don’t believe the “report” on the Braves almost getting Peralta. Has anyone else reported it, or just some Braves podcaster? It doesn’t make sense that AA would demand an extension before trading for a guy.

Maybe... according to the deal. If the trade was contingent on a decent extension, then it makes sense. If the extension was basically what he was gonna get in FA, then yeah.

I tend to agree. All the other trade and extend deals had the extension happen after the trade. Maybe quickly after, but certainly after rather than before.

AA was very upfront at the beginning of the offseason that he wanted to add an impact starter. You can debate whether Peralta should fit that mold, but I don't think AA would make that a deal-breaker.

It’s going to be nearly impossible to win the MVP over a guy who posts 700 PAs of a 1.000 OPS and makes any type of impact on the mound. If Ohtani’s arm is healthy he’s the MVP of the entire sport, maybe ever.
