GDT #44: 5/20/14 Brewers (Gallardo 2-2) @ Braves (Teheran 2-3), 7:10

It certainly helps. Lee is also 35 and has pitched a long time. There is a bit of a difference in that and having your elbow go out in your mid 30s and getting it done when before age 25.

I agree that we shouldn't be comparing an older pitcher having an issue with all these young guns going down.

Lee was also a late-bloomer, didnt start pitching really until he was 27-28?

Still, TJ is what it is, some pitchers with horrible mechanics never get it and some with solid/standard get it.

Cliff Lee has thrown 2143.1 inning in the majors and 434 innings in the minors. For comparison TimHudson has only thrown like 500 more innings in his 3 more years of age.

Here's an update on that young kid hit by the foul ball:

A team official released a statement, saying, “The young fan was hit in the head by a ball but conscious and talkative while he was being treated on site before being transferred to the hospital. The team and all of Braves Country have him in our thoughts and prayers.”

Brad Clontz of the '95 WS Champion Braves added me on twitter today. I didn't even know he was on twitter. Not as cool as Santana adding me without request but still pretty cool.

I think a lot of the surgery epidemic has to do with pitchers going Max effort all game. Julio doesn't throw as hard as he can all game because he works that 2 weaker. I hope it bodes well for him moving forward.

If Lee needs surg Philly is really fooked, he's about all they've got left that isn't has been or never was. Maybe they'd actually become sellers for once.

Think Jimmy Rollins could play 2b for a year or two? How's his contract compare to Uggla's?

I would disagree but point out that in general it seems cause of the 100 limit guys throw harder rather than being ready for 140+

Still think the majority of injuries have to do with timing issues. When you have a timing issue you tend to have to over compensate with your arm which creates extra strain on your arm ligaments which concentrate on your elbow or not out of the question shoulder. I think the "rise" in prevalence has to do with the way baseball is scouted now a days. 50 years ago people didn't play as much baseball as today and I think it reflects on the youth. There wasn't year round baseball, so on so forth. The factory that's producing young stars that has been happening in baseball is also likely the biggest cause of it's problem. Of course there's also the expansion argument. And then the knowledge argument. It used to be you shut guys down and prayed. And if they didn't heal they quietly went away. As Tommy John became more successful, it became as easy to prep for as pulling a rotten tooth.
