2025-2026 offseason thread

I tried to use the “AA had his budget cut in the middle of the offseason” excuse last year. So it’s hard to suggest it again with any seriousness.

Fact of the matter is SP injuries are likely to ruin this season, just like it ruined last season. The difference between then and now is everyone on the planet understood the likelihood of all these SPs getting injured.

There is zero excuse to have not added to the rotation. AA failed, again. This makes 4 transaction period failures in a row.

I don’t understand how anyone can defend him anymore. He’s now botched two off seasons, ruining one season and potentially a second. But sure let’s all celebrate his one accomplishment. Wait until he lets Acuña walk for free. That’ll be the icing on the cake. Either sign him or trade him. But don’t ride his contract out while flushing seasons bc he’s incapable of building an adequate roster.

No one here is excusing his failure to get a capable SP this off-season. But some of us are smart enough not write off his entire 99th percentile outcome tenure just because he’s failed to address a couple glaring holes the last two off seasons.

Is it ok to not maximize two seasons during a team’s contention window? It’s as if he’s content with doing just enough to make the playoffs, get a little bit more revenue, and call it a day. And that’s the best case scenario. Bc when injuries happen, which they always do, we have nothing to bail us out. This season will be no different than last in that will miss the playoffs. And it was completely avoidable. But if you’re content with a few AAAA pitchers starting for us for 15+ starts then I guess I have higher standards for my team.

I still think the uncertainty with the TV deal situation made the have AA hold back a but on spending.
And that's clown shoes that they didn't begin adequately preparing for that a long time ago. It does make the most sense though. I just see no logical reason why he wouldn't at least sign Littell given that he's in the same mold of a Lopez or Holmes and can be used flexibly.

8 season, 7 playoffs, 6 division titles, and a world series title during Alex's run

But the decision to extend the entire roster, killing all roster flexibility, and a few key decisions backfiring spectacularly (Murphy trade, Freeman decision, etc). Then ignoring the rotation for 2 straight years. Sticking with Snit then Weiss...

We are talking about a half decade of decisions that are handcuffing the franchise. Not sure how much leash that deserves, but if you asked the fan base of they would sign up for the 8 year results, everyone would have been thrilled

Imagine this pitching staff if a hall of fame pitcher didnt fall in our lap for scraps

To be fair, sale was there for anyone willing to take the risk.
