2026 ST Thread

This is really not a bad thing, IMO. Profar is what, OPS+ 110 when on the juice? He was determined incapable of playing the easiest position on the field and we're looking at platoon and job sharing at DH for him. Murphy and Baldwin will both need significant at bats starting about 6 weeks in. Gamel is a decent 5th option, Eli White as RH side of LF gives you everything you want in a ballplayer except good contact. And we save at least $15M, maybe $30M if we can void next year. Release his ass today, reconsider Giolito or other pitchers or stay below that apron of the luxury tax.

If we're looking for a veteran bat off the bench or DH type, Justin Turner is still out there. He was bad last year in Chicago but was decent in 2024. He'd also likely come pretty cheap.

Profar at a 110 OPS+ would be a better option than what’s currently out there in free agency.

Do they really get the money back and more importantly do they get an exemption from the penalties for going over the salary line?
They get it back this year so I would guess they get the exemption if they stay under - unless MLB wants to be selective in pretending what money does and doesn’t exist. We are on the hook for his contract next year though. I can’t imagine we’d let him back on the team.

Good news. There likely won't be much of a season next year

Isaac Paredes is going to be traded before opening day. Not sure the cost or if they are looking for someone already established. But he makes a lot of sense. Signed for 2 seasons at affordable rates.

What is Enscheff gonna come in here preaching about now? He's gonna I told you so this thing so hard.
All of those people claiming Profar would be a star this year are looking even more foolish now. I’ve said repeatedly that he isn’t that good to begin with and the PEDs were propping him up, but the usual bootlicking optimists were convinced he turned a corner and would solve all of the offensive problems. I look forward to more excuses for him and the same people to be excited for his season next year.

Buddy he ain't gonna be on the team next year. Whatever arrangement they need to make, he ain't gonna be on the team.
