You've yet to say what should be done about it thenI generally agree that young people should be given a certain amount of space to solve problems between themselves without adult intervention. I don't think the experiences that David French describes fall in this category.
what French describes is not one incident with one white personmeanwhile the teenage black girl is being told to get over her bad experience with a white person (let's assume it happened) and presumably not allow it to color all future interactions with white people.
I think the first step is not to dismiss with a "sure sure" + Jessie Smollet. We've made great progress on race in this country but we should be honest in our assessment of where we are. You've yet to say what should be done about it then
We try then the left funds more of itI think the first step is not to dismiss with a "sure sure" + Jessie Smollet. We've made great progress on race in this country but we should be honest in our assessment of where we are.
Jussie Smollet doesn't happen if our country doesn't incentivize victimhoodI think the first step is not to dismiss with a "sure sure" + Jessie Smollet. We've made great progress on race in this country but we should be honest in our assessment of where we are.
Still depressingly obsessed with it and it's supposed essentialism, unfortunatelywe should be honest in our assessment of where we are.
I hope someone starts a gofundme for thetheGuess she will be forever traumatized and never make it
I don't think David French is obsessed with racism. He is just making an observation. He writes about a wide range of topics.Still depressingly obsessed with it and it's supposed essentialism, unfortunately
Why do you think black people are worse off today than they were 50 years ago economically?I don't think David French is obsessed with racism. He is just making an observation. He writes about a wide range of topics.
I think we've made a lot of progress on it. My first year in this country I remember my fifth grade teacher pulling aside the three black kids in my class and explaining to them they would have to go to a different school the next year.
I remember a rich guy taking out a full page ad falsely condemning , trying and sentencing the Central Park 5.Remember when Jussie Smollet was mugged by a bunch of racists? And Bubba Wallace was theeatened with a grlarage rope? And Nicholas Sandman smiled at an indian?
The phd is so adorable
I've shared some thoughts. I think the counterfactual of successful black children of immigrants provides some hints. They avoid moving to highly segregated areas (ghettos). They value education very highly. They have intact family structures. Why do you think black people are worse off today than they were 50 years ago economically?
LolI remember a rich guy taking out a full page ad falsely condemning , trying and sentencing the Central Park 5.
You later voted ( yes, voted )
for said rich guy 3 times to carry the nuclear suitcase.
You conveniently forget all Civil Rights movemem arguments center around whether or not white people were entitled to enslave black people.
You apparently hold that belief .
Tell us all why not
Why shouldn't Bubba Wallace's crew be sensitive to a noose in the garage.
I really doubt this was the first time a racial slight was aimed at Wallace. Think it, gamesmanship?
Read the room
The other incident you repeat years later are, well, a native American being harassed by a legacy bigot.
Please don't let it be lost All of these incidents center around the supposed right of whites owning POC slaves.
So black americans are uniquely positioned to fail? Despite all the preferential treatment they receive from every system in the country?I've shared some thoughts. I think the counterfactual of successful black children of immigrants provides some hints. They avoid moving to highly segregated areas (ghettos). They value education very highly. They have intact family structures.
If there is a solution, I think it will have to involve reducing patterns of segregation where large numbers of black children grow up in blighted areas with all sorts of pathologies, including a lack of fathers and other male role models. Those pathologies are self-perpetuating legacies of past racism.
They are not unique. Whites in Appalachia and some other rural areas show their own brands of multi-generational poverty and dysfunction. So black americans are uniquely positioned to fail? Despite all the preferential treatment they receive from every system in the country?
But outcomes have gotten worse despite all the progress and preferential treatment grantedThey are not unique. Whites in Appalachia and some other rural areas show their own brands of multi-generational poverty and dysfunction.
I think blacks still suffer from a certain amount of discrimination and stereotyping. David French's interview highlighted this.
Blacks also suffer from self-perpetuating legacies of past discrimination.
57... guy" all the preferential treatment they receive "
Not to make too big a deal of the use of the world, " they"!
Another form of preferential treatment might be Bubba Wallace's garage got a noose and not say for example, Kevin Harvick's.
So yes, " preferential treatment" is at the heart of the issue.l
As far as Charlottesville, if not mistaken the minority targeted was Jewish.
You can look it up
Some outcomes have gotten worse. Generally there is less upward mobility than there used to be. And some of that reflects increasing residential segregation. Groups that avoid these patterns of segregation (notably immigrants and their children) have continued to show upward mobility. But outcomes have gotten worse despite all the progress and preferential treatment granted
