2026 : Around the League

We've known the injuries the past couple of years have killed us but it's crazy we have the best team in baseball, a good farm right now and 2 1st round picks in the draft

Nah.

Unless the cost is low enough where he is basically given away, there isn't much reason to bring him in.

We have Kim, Dubon, and Mateo already at the major league level for the rest of the year.

Volpe has always been a poor hitter. His only redeeming quality has been his defense, which really took a nosedive last year to the point where he might now be a 2b only. And we have an even deeper glut of 2b options between ML and AAA rosters.

Fair enough. I don’t think one year of defensive data is enough for me to say he’s no longer good there, considering he was considered a good defensive SS prospect and was good in the majors until last year.

I was thinking for more future and not for this year. Though none of those guys are good enough to prevent me from acquiring a potential long-term solution.

His defensive stats have been all over the place. DRS loved him in 2023 with elite grades, but in 2024 while he still generated good metrics, DRS gave him a significant downgrade. OOA was the opposite, as it had Volpe as roughly average in 2023 and then graded him as an elite defender in 2024. Neither metric viewed his 2025 season very well, though DRS did have him positive overall.

Inserted into the Astros lineup after Carlos Correa was scratched, Braden Shewmake went 2-for-3 and homered off Shohei Ohtani in the win over the Dodgers.
Shewmake’s homer on a 99-mph fastball was a 337-footer into the Crawford Boxes. Statcast said it would have been a homer in four ballparks, but it was a pretty impressive piece of hitting regardless. It was his third homer in 85 plate appearances as a major leaguer. He’s 4-for-13 with two homers since the Astros added him
