Ted Turner Rest in Peace

Well here is one of my maybe two posts per year. RIP Ted.
I worked as a club musician in SC and NC back in the ‘80s, 6 and 7 nights a week; the Braves were a nightly backdrop in every bar that had TVs and they all did, somewhere. You couldn’t help but become a Braves fan.

Lots of stories, the most Ted related was coming home late after work and watching him in The Americas Cup, which was live overnight here in the US. Every night. Beat the hell out of Australian Rules Football which was the typical ESPN overnight programming back then. He did the USA proud.

Another maybe worth mentioning is later on I lived in Atlanta and worked the 1996 NLCS in the Olympic stadium which was used for the VIP hospitality stuff while the field was being redone to become Turner Field. When I was done one night, I loaded out via the freight elevator and I stepped inside with my cart of gear, and lo and behold there sat the 1995 WS trophy on a cart. No one around. I stood there a while. Crickets. I had bad thoughts but behaved myself and rode down and sent it back upstairs. Same one Ted was holding. Never forget it.

If you had a modern cell phone back then, how many selfies are you taking with it?

No kidding. Never thought about that. There would be proof it really happened. Of course working meant I missed seeing that epic comeback to win that series after St Louis had us down. Then they went to NYC and Andrew threw down and it looked like we were keeping that trophy another year. Until Leyritz.

Also a PS. We were just like musical wallpaper, it really wasn’t like we were playing to an audience. Just a constant stream of people passing us by. I saw so many nationally known faces but never saw Ted. Guess he was across the street at the game.

“Musical wallpaper”. I can definitely relate.

Hell I certainly relate- that’s my whole life - I’m simply family wallpaper. No one in my house notices me at all- except the dog, and only because she wants illegal fridge food which she knows I’ll get every time the other humans aren’t looking.

Back to the original story - I woulda’ been tempted to do bad things with that trophy too!

I believe in you I believe that you're the best of your family and that the reason they don't know it is because they don't deserve you🥹🥹🥹
