Minor League Thread Part Deux

Owen Carey has been on the 7 day IL sinc 4/20. I haven't seen an update on his status. Hope it's not anything serious, but I imagine at this point he will require get a rehab stint in the FCL.
As fun as the offensive outbreak has been for the system, we still have Carey, Essenburg and Tornes that are hurt and could really take it to the next level.

Also, Lodise gets overlooked because of the swing and miss issues, but the defense is legitimately great. He doesn't need to hit much to be a quality prospect and a legitimate starting SS candidate for us. Just look at Carson Williams.

I'll note in passing that Logan Braunschweig is currently slugging .460 with an ISO of .160. Not exceptional, of course, particularly considering he's 23 in High-A, but he already has three home runs, which is more than he hit in three of his four full college seasons.

Williams is bad. He's a negative defender, and an awful hitter (-9 wrc+).

Isn’t Rome a serious pitcher’s park? From this article:

High-A Rome: 84 overall, 32 for home runs (really)

These offensive statlines are even crazier in context. Look at the home road splits for these guys:

Drake
- Home: .222/.276/.352
- Away: .351/.419/.636

Hartman
- Home: .255/.317/.345
- Away: .391/.488/1.000 (!!!!!)

Hartman is slugging an even 1.000 in non-Rome parks. That is insane.

I wish we could get some EV data on him. Is he a guy who hits the ball hard consistently but has a flat swing or is he always just going to be a guy with average-below average power?

That's not really the point. Williams was still a unanimous top 100 prospect. As far as his defense, he doesn't have enough data on his defense at the ML level to make any determinations. But he was widely considered to be an elite defensive SS in the minors. Whatever his defensive metrics are so far, I would think it's likely just small sample noise.

Dansby didn't have strong defensive metrics early in his career either. But we know he was a good defender.

Ah, I'm getting pleasant, fuzzy memories of our minor league club in Myrtle Beach and all the offensive adjustments we had to make for that park.
