If this is a hoax I'll cry.

That's something I think pretty much all of us (sturg and aces aside) could get behind replacing US roads with this.

too good to be true. I don't see this as cost effective and I have serious traction concerns. Plus, how are you going to see the lights that make up the lines in daylight?

Well the cost effective part would be energy return. Traction is a concern, durability is a concern. As far as lines in the daylight, that is a simple enough fix, brightness of LEDs can easily power through daylight.

Honestly. I see there being issues, but this is a great move in the right direction.

There'd be a massive, massive, construction cost, compared to conventional road construction. In addition to traction and durability issues, I'd think there may also be a noise issue with these panels. Also, I wonder how scarring, oil spots, dirt, etc. will affect the electrical generating ability of the solar panels underneath the plate glass and the LED lighting.

Seems the first place to try this is in parking lots and outdoor courts first, before the very rough environment of roadways.

That's pretty much the idea. Hell even if all it does is replace parking lots that would be a huge gain.

You would be able to see these led lights in broad daylight, with the sun beaming directly on these panels?

I'm not convinced that the cost of this would be made up by energy saved. How expensive would one of these hexagons be to have it replaced? It's not just asphalt. It's a complex glass and circuit board. Also, how long would it take to replace these?

Don't get me wrong. I think the idea has merit, but at this iteration, it's not feasible to me.

That's a giant task to replace ALL roads and sidewalks and stuff. Where do we come up with the money to pay for it all initially? Love the idea, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Can they make some of the roads heated to prevent freezing and stuff?
