GDT #61, 6/8/14: Braves (Harang) vs. Diamondbacks (Anderson); 4:10 EDT

I wonder if Fredi will throw Hale under the bus in his presser or if he will say anything about his own decisions to let the guy rot in the pen.

Just curious who here believes FG has any buisness managing a MLB team?

I guess the only explanation I can think of for letting Harang start the inning and not going with the pen, is everyone except and Simmons and Kimbrel have really been bad lately, so maybe he thought Harang could through the 7th and then go Simmons-Kimbrel. Let's hope that once Walden returns, the bullpen will get better, but right now, they are dreadfully bad.

I just don't see how one guys appearance can make this pen turn things around. They are god awful man. Carpenter and Avilan are toast.

Sure I think this one could be argued both ways. But I think the case for taking him out was stronger. He had struggled most of the game. We had a runner in scoring position when Harang's turn came up. I would have tried to get by with combination of Avilan/Carpenter in the 7th, Simmons in the 8th and Kimbrel in the 9th.

I don't know how someone could explain Avilan's fall. He was lights out last season and obviously that isn't sustainable, but he's been bad this season.

Here's a couple of examples of how Walden's presence would have changed each of these last two games. If Walden were available last night, then you would have either him or Simmons available to close out the game in the 10th, because one or the other of them would have been used in the 8th Inning. And for today if Walden were available, Fredi would have been more prone to pinch hit for Harang in the 7th, bring in Simmons or Walden in the 7th and go to the other one in the 8th to get to Kimbrel. It would change the whole dynamic of the bullpen.
