GDT 7/23/13: Braves (Medlen) @ Mets (Torres) 7:10 PM

It's like when the heart of our lineup comes to bat with runners on, it feels no different than if the bottom 3 are coming up.

We could have more games like this ahead since both Justin and Freeman are playing hurt. I believe it's effecting both of them, though Freeman has still had some hits in recent games. Still, I don't see the consistency in his swing I did before his injury.

Pastornicky for Uggla and Schafer/Gattis for BJ (when healthy). Might not improve the offense, but send message to guys who have been killing this team with lack of production. Needs to do something....maybe fire Walker. I don't know, but it is obvious what they are doing is not working.

Who would you bench and who would you replace them with? I'm curious

4 decent innings pitched, right? Failed badly in the 6th, right? 2 good pitches with (before this year) good control, right? Sounds like a "potential" bullpen candidate to me. Better he cleans up other people's messes than create his own. IF Wood and Beachy are ready, I just think Medlen could work in the bullpen and not have to worry about how the offense hits, just do his job and pitch to get outs!!!

How in the world can anyone think Alex Wood is ready to be a starter over Medlen?

He didn't even pitch that dominantly in his bullpen outings...?!

Are some of you just that biased because he went to UGA?

Really? Bench the guy who's leading the team in hr? That's brilliant.

Great, like this, we'll back into another play-off loss even if we win this NL Least division!

This. Excuse me if I don't get excited at winning a piss poor division to once again get our ass handed to us in the postseason because of inconsistent play and the fact that no adjustments were even attempted.

Guys, we obviously have not been getting our PED shipments since the Biogenesis thing took off. Don't worry, as soon as we find a new supplier we will start hitting again.

It's not that they're biased, it's just that u(sic)ga fans don't know anything. We've all seen them getting lost from the parking lot to the front door at Walmart...

Who knows.

THe last time we won a playoff series, our regular season record was 88-74 in 2001 and that team wasn't even as all-around talented as this one. We had Lopez with bad knees, Caminit and Julio alternating 1st base, Rey Sanchez, BJ Surhoff/Bernard Gilkey and Brian Jordan hitting cleanup.

Maybe we're one of those teams that isn't dominant in regular season then gets really hot in the playoffs like all the other teams that have beaten us in the past in the postseason?

2002 we had a good all-around team.
2003 we had a historically great offense.
2004 we had a solid all-around team.
2005 we had a decent team.
2010 we had a decent team.
2012 we had a really good team.

People need to realize that our offense is our biggest problem. Not Medlen, not the rotation, not the bullpen.

If we lose this game 4-1, it's still going to be Medlen's fault.

Some will say "it's hard to ask your offense for runs when you're down 4-1".

Same can be said for Medlen. Hard to ask him to go pitch relaxed (like he did last year) when he gets only 1 run per game of support.

He pitched very good this game minus that bottom of the 6th. Whereas our offense has sucked in almost every inning of this series.

It is largely Medlen's fault. Braves score 4.34 runs per game on the average. if you put the team in a position where they cannot win scoring under the average numbers of runs, you're putting yourself at a disadvantage. Not to mention the Mets still have 3.2 potential innings for the BP to give up a run. The braves allowing 1 run on the pen would fit perfectly into their Reliever ERA. Meaning the Braevs would essentially need to given the likely scenarios that would happen after Medlen leaving the game score 6 runs to win the game. Which would be well above their season average. Hardly impossible. But you cannot count on your offense to bail you out when you let up 4 runs in under 6 innings. Sure it can happen, just cannot count on it.

I'm convinced we would have gone far last year if it wasn't for that 2nd wildcard crap and we got a real series.
