GDT 7/23/13: Braves (Medlen) @ Mets (Torres) 7:10 PM

Lets not forget that Medlen always seems to pitch with zero run support. Actually most Braves starters pitch without much support. This offense is so lame and Fredi does nothing to attempt to improve. Sticks with his regulars come hell or high water.

Agreed.

If he was spotted a few runs, he probably pitches differently.

Not going to change now. Simmons hit a leadoff HR. He's bought himself another 6 weeks in the leadoff spot

That's pretty harsh on the kid.

He had what, like 60 pitches through 5 innings?

He had a bad inning. We aren't going to win any games anyways if we can't score more than 1-2 runs a game.

If you can't get Ike Davis out in that situation it really doesn't matter how many pitches you threw or how much run support you did or didn't get. Medlen can't put people away when it counts, and until he does, he will keep losing.

I feel for Medlen, tonight was one of those nights, he didn't make many mistakes but he was beaten by BABIP. Shame for him as well. But this is the reverse games (FIP much lower than ERA) that can happen when you outperform your FIP by the margin Medlen was.

Ummm...English please

I would think benching some of these guys for an extended period of time could generate additional focus.

Fredi did learn the art of stubbornness and loyalty from Bobby.

And it worked out for Bobby on several occasion.

I seem to remember Fredi moving Chipper around the batting order plenty last year.

I have to agree with this. His stuff just isn't as crisp as it was last year, and the pinpoint location isn't there either. His K rate is down and his BB rate is up, a pitcher trending in the wrong direction.

If we lose this game 4-1, it's still going to be Medlen's fault.

Some will say "it's hard to ask your offense for runs when you're down 4-1".

Same can be said for Medlen. Hard to ask him to go pitch relaxed (like he did last year) when he gets only 1 run per game of support.

He pitched very good this game minus that bottom of the 6th. Whereas our offense has sucked in almost every inning of this series.

I know we're in first place by a good margin, but with so many hitters underperforming, doesn't someone have to take the fall for this? I'd love to see this team reach their full potential. Obviously something is holding them back.

We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

The only thing holding back our hitters is our hitters.
