GDT 7/12/14: Braves (Minor) @ Cubs (Jackson) 4:05 PM

CB defense is not that good, people steal off of him easily and that was not good .

Have to disagree. He has a better arm than anyone we've had behind the plate since...???? He threw out the Cubs runner at 2B earlier in the game and started an amazing double play to end the fourth inning. Defensively, he can do things Gattis and Laird can only dream of. I say that as a huge fan of Evan Gattis but Oso is far more of a work in progress as a catcher; Laird is, at best, mediocre.

He is no Molina which everyone says he is defensively.

How many have he thrown out compared to not getting caught? If I remembered the one he did not throw out was the winning run.

That PB should not have happened.

The PB was "an accident waiting to happen" IMO. Minor was peppering the dirt with his pitches, missing his target badly and, sooner or later, one was going to get by. Had Gattis or Laird been back there with the way Minor was all over the place, there would've probably been a couple of more pitches reach the backstop.

Excuse.

If Gattis did that, you would be all over it. He sucks, he is terrible and what not.

Oh he is like 1 for 8 or 9 in throwing out people this year?

How many games has he played?

And how many games have you watched?

Of course it shouldn't have happened. Simmons shouldn't make errors either but he does.

If you're going to compare him to the best catcher in the game, you've got a point but that's a pretty high, perhaps unrealistic, standard for such a young player. However, if you want to compare apples to apples e.g. Molina as a rookie and CB as a rookie, there's not a lot of difference IMO.

Presume much? Most people understandably give Gattis some slack for his defensive shortcomings since he's still learning the position--Laird less so because he's a veteran.

Methinks he is not a god behind the plate and stats back that up and Gattis gets killed for his gaffs but CB already tied and passed him in defensive stats already on the bad side.

That PB shouldn't happened. But since Minor gave up a double it didn't matter but when the game is on the line, you need your defense.

You're an idiot.

What's a gaff?

Seriously, I have never excoriated Gattis for his defensive challenges during what is admittedly an "OJT period" as a catcher.

Is your opinion that Gattis is better defensively than CB? If that's the case, I disagree with that assessment and (when all is said and done) I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours.

You've definitely hurt my brain.

I actually didn't know you had one. I guess your lobotomy did not go well. smh.

But being a mod I guess it is okay for you to attack posters. If you cannot refute facts, you come in calling people idiots. I said based on fact he is not WOW me in the defense department. In less games he has as many PB as Gattis, a lesser percentage of throwing out runners. Those are facts. His hitting is suspect but he has came through but that is not his strength.

He is better than Laird I give you that, but he should many times better than Gattis as well and hasn't shown it, fact.

Actually no, if given their record. Gattis is still a baby since he left the game, but CB is not "bringing it" in the defensive side. I was looking for 35% at least caught stealing and maybe 1 PB at this juncture. He is just another catcher to me right now and should look better. His blocking IS superior to Gattis, I will give you that, but framing, NO way, throwing, about the same looking at their percentages.
