2014 DRAFT PICK SIGNING and speculation thread

The Braves seem to have a lot of confidence in their ability to find players off the beaten track, whether it be those who play in areas where the weather doesn't allow a lot of games or guys who play for small obscure colleges. Obviously, they will also pick players from well scouted areas. But they seem to think they have a bit of an edge in areas that other teams might not be looking.

Our high school picks in this draft are mainly guys in warm weather and well scouted areas. The exception so far is Dorrian. If we sign Dazon Cole or Carl Stajduhar that would be a second exception.

Apparently, Braves won't be coming to terms with Dazon Cole this week. He has announced he's changed his college commitment from Central Michigan to Wabah Valley College in hopes of getting a better draft slot in 2015. I read several reports that this guy would have made the late rounds special for the Braves had they come to terms.

As the draft signing period winds down with no buzz about late pickups, I notice that the Braves drafted three high school players out of Colorado who did not come close to signing. Since that state is hardly a hotbed of prep talent, I wonder -- were any of these picks a suckup, or worse, to Liberty Media suits?

Baseball America reports that Braves have signed No. 13 Caleb Beech, RHP from Shelton State (Ala.), giving them 28 signees and all of their top 16 and 19 of top 20.

The three guys who have shot out to great starts are Dystra #7, Edgerton #9 and Godfrey #22.

Among the international signings making their stateside debuts, none has done better than Albies. He got the second biggest bonus we handed out last international signing period. Just 17.

Beech had a solid year at Shelton State. Big kid who was a pretty good high school QB according to a couple of old articles I read.

No. 17 Ashton Perritt returning to Liberty for senior season as their closer.

Dazon Cole now going to Wabash CC, expected Braves offer but no report except that he's not signed.

Colorado prepster Carl Stajduhar going to New Mexico U.

Tucker Baca reaffirms commitment to Arizona State.

Likewise, Jake Godfrey has never waivered from LSU plans.
