You simply have a fine limit. Once they reach it, they get the death penalty. Certainly isn't a slap on the wrists.
 
The fear of executing an innocent person is a really big deal to me.
Personally, in "clear cut" cases, I'm not opposed, in theory. But what is "clear-cut"? It can be subjective and you can't really have that used.
I struggle with it, those who brutally kill others, or are serial rapists/pedophiles, the world is better off without them. But you'd better be damn sure, and even then it's dicey.
 
We don't have to sanction death penalty, just put them in the same common area as other lifers. People like this piece of sh!t won't last a week in prison. Guards do look the other way and then have the cleanup crew come in later and take care of the bloody corpse.

It saves us money in the end. What can they do to a lifer with no parole? Probably pat him on the back and give him an incentive.
 
You could even have community service to help them work off fines. Plenty of ways to make it work.

I am pretty much in that area as well DNC. Innocents have been put to death accidentally but in this case when I see a child get tortured worse than war prisoners and died at the hands of the parents.

It is a fine line on how far we should go. I still stand if you don't want any government involvement, put them in the worst scenario possible and let nature takes it course. That is the correct way to go.

I know Goldy will fight that the parents should be kept from the general population for their protection.

Government should not do this (Death Penalty), government should do that (punish people who have their morals trampled on)?

You want them (the guvment) to convenience you and only you. What about the people (a tortured and now dead child, a baker forced to make something that he doesn't want) who had their values absolutely squashed or die with no retribution whatsoever.

And you want to get real deep, should they both get protected while in prison knowing the life expectancy of murdering of a child is not very long?

What punishment would you like? Life in prison that you pay for?

Could you stand next to that man knowing he could possibly get parole? What if he smirks or laugh at what he took from you, your own blood, could you honestly take that?

You can't touch him as you would go to prison as well.

In reality this is the big government position. The only way to achieve this would be for the federal government to take away this power from all states. So essentially sturg is in favor of bigger federal government in this case.

Even libertarians believe in basic governmental functions of course, including the court system and the need to prosecute crimes that include victims. So julio's attempted shot at libertarian hypocrisy failed that test. And then of course the true decider in whether or not the defendant deserves the death penalty are the jurors, which are citizens, not the government. Sure the government presents the case, but that's a very lame argument. The appeals process is a better argument, but that's only after the public has voted on guilt.
