Wednesday, the Padres called up Atlantan and popular former Brave Jeff Francouer, replacing Cameron Maybin, who was placed on a 25-game suspension for naughtiness.

He joins Brooks Conrad (called up two weeks ago) as extremely popular former Braves who have hung in there and getting another (last?) chance. They'll be in Atlanta over the weekend, and I predict a standing O for both when they make their first appearance at the plate.

El Paso manager Pat Murphy: "He wouldn't use the coach's bathroom when Bobby Cox managed him. He's not doing it in El Paso." Gave permission for team to rig up an elaborate contraption to totally contain Frenchy -- who escaped through the ceiling! Two all-time pranks in one year; bet he's relieved to be out of there.

Hadn't seen that Brooks got the calll. That's awesome. Congratulations to Frenchy, too, I guess.

Why don't they just promote El Paso and let them play in Petco?

What a train wreck. Their GM needed to get fired. Now someone needs to take the keys away from Omar before he drives them over a cliff. I don't like what he's gotten back in his deals. For one thing, they can't play six second basemen.

Bill Shanks just got a huge rise out of this callup. He's hoping Omar will hire all of the former baby braves.

We'll see Frenchy since we're scheduled to send two lefties in the series. Not sure what they're using Conrad for (Late inning defense?)

Francoeur strikes me as being dumber than a sack of hammers and he's got the baseball sense of a newt, but I could never ramp up any true disdain for the guy. He is what he is and in a large sense, his stubbornness has really blunted what could have been a much better career.
