MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

:happy0157:

Even including Johnson's slow start, we are getting basically the same production for less than half the cost. Not sure how that makes him better.

Your Prado hate is beyond irrational.

Prado is better offensively (marginally, but still better) and is leagues better than CJ on defense and base running.

Isn't Lackey signed for league minimum next year?

Yes but he's apparently made it known he would sit out all of 2015 rather than play for 500k. So whatever team has him on their roster at the end of 2014 will probably need to negotiate some sort of an extension.

lol the only mention of the Braves today is one that says they can't add significant payroll.

And FTR I said this all along. But hey I don't have a knowledge of baseball. :happy0157:

So do yall think we add anyone?

A bullpen piece, a bench bat, anything?

If Meds didnt go down, we'd have more money to add someone but had to sign Erv.

Im not really sure, wouldnt be surprised either way.

Could still make a deal if we can get the other team to eat the remaining salary. Probably a possibility with the Red Sox And Lester but not Price. I was doing the math on next year's salary and they could conceivably fit Price in the 2015 budget.

I don't think we add anything of significance. Perhaps a lesser bat for the bench. I think the fact that the Braves haven't made anything happen speaks volumes. Wren is trying get creative because there is no payroll left.

You said that we can't add significant payroll? That's not some revolutionary statement, everyone knew that..

Then why were people clamoring for Price?

I think most knew it was a pipe dream. You can't rule anything out, and fans salivate at the potential of getting him. But it's not like anyone was sure we were going to land him. It was a dream from the start. And FWIW Price's salary for the rest of the year may not be considered "significant."

Likewise, the Braves remain focused on left-handed relief, and Andrew Miller of the Red Sox in particular, reports MLB.com’s Mark Bowman. But with other teams also interested, Boston’s current asking price appears to be out of the Braves’ comfort zone. With Atlanta unable to add any more salary, it may need to increase the prospect return to convince a trade partner to hold onto its monetary obligations. It is possible that the club will hold out until August to add a southpaw to the pen and/or a bench piece.
