It doesn't matter...the Falcons could always end up sucking for a year and end up with the #1 pick and draft a QB. I don't think the contract was a mistake I'm just saying that there would be life after the prodigal son.

COMPLETELY different situation.

Atl doesn't have a top 5 pick sitting behind Ryan.

Not to mention Brees was coming off shoulder surgery, hell it was questioned if he would ever play again. You are right, but those are two completely different situations.

How many teams let a QB go IN in his prime playing well, with no one behind him. I can't think of any.
 
SF, CB Tarrell Brown lost 2 million b/c he didn't show up to offseason activities, and whatnot.

Then fired his agent lol.

The Falcons team as is, isn't #1 overall bad even w/o Ryan.

And it's no lock you hit on that QB, and if you whiff, your franchise is set back another 2-3 more years at least.

I know more about football than you cause I actually you know played, and played for a very competitive high school. You can bet your ass we were pumped and put 100% into every game. There are small momentum swings, but football is all about in game momentum. The Ravens comign back to beat that Colts didn't inspire Tom Brady to throw a bunch of picks.

Took the Broncos years to replace Elway, the Dolphins still haven't replaced Marino, the Bills still haven't replaced Kelly, took the Cowboys years to get Romo to replace Aikman, could keep going on. But Franchise QBs don't just grow on trees. Of the current crop that everyone has their panties wet about (Luck, Wilson, Kaepernick, and RG3) odds are that at most 2 of them amount to true franchise QBs at the most others will fizzle out in one way or another. Heck they can even have several great years (even elite) and fizzle out, remember when people thought Cutler was a Franchise QB? Or Rivers? Cutler has sucked for quite some time and Rivers hasn't done **** without Gates/Jackson.

Bottom line is that when you have a guy like Ryan you keep him. No team off the top of my head let a QB of his caliber go and it worked out for them without it being some crazy scenario like the Chargers or Rams where they had a sick talent in the wings. Unless you think Dominique Davis is SUPASTAR

Falcons dont' keep Ryan, they would be mediocre at best for years. Probably one of those annoying teams like the BIlls who never suck enough to get a top pick.
 
So now that it looks like Harvin's season might be over....does everyone believe SEattle is still better?

Pretty sure you can find a QB for cheaper than 22 mil a year and then use that saved money on other players and get a better TEAM. Rather than tying up 35% of your cap in 1 player, who's never won anything.

QB is certainly the most important position and you are screwed with not having one. Having a good QB gives the team a chance to win, not having one pretty much assures you of losing.

Having said that, the Falcons were in a tough position. Overpay a very good QB (pay him like a great one) or let him walk and try to find another one through draft (without a top pick) or FA (rarely happens) The teams with non great QBs really do get screwed into overpaying their QB.

Obviously QB is the most important position, but you don't pay a non SB winning QB with ONE career playoff win that kind of money. You just don't, unless you're Jerry Jones and you're an idiot.

Ryan is doing everything I expect. He improved his deep ball tremendously last season. I expect him to continue to improve. Arthur Blank won't stop till they have a ring you can bank on that imo
