I think you undervalue Gattis' trade value. Obviously he isn't going to net you someone like Sale straight up, but cheap, young power bats like him rarely come available. Also, add in the fact that he is a half way decent catcher.
 
Trading Gattis and replacing him with a guy who in his good years is going to be lucky to post a .700 OPS is exactly what this team needs.

Talk to me about putting Bethancourt behind the plate in Gattis' place when we have a CF, 3B, or SS to make up for the lost offense.
 
But yeah the notion that we'd be better off with a guy that would be lucky to put up a .600 OPS in the majors right now as opposed to Gattis is hilarious.

What do y'all think about Cole Hamels? I know he makes a lot but would they take BJ Upton back? Something like Upton, Bethancourt, Wood, and maybe Simms for Hamels and Revere? Only way we get rid of Upton is to get creative like that.

If you really want to get rid of BJ, there are far less creative ways to do it.
