The Consistent Justin Upton

Lest we create needless resentment between siblings, I think we need to create a thread recognizing the remarkably consistent play of BJ Upton. The man is a metronome of suck.

If you were going with the "aggregate" claim, couldn't you have said ALL of our hitters are so bad? Since, in aggregate, we're a below average offense?

Clarrified a couple posts down from that one. It's pretty clear we have 2 really, really good hitters. There is a wide gap between those two and the other guys in the lineup; although Gattis is a pretty big threat when he's in the lineup, but has only had 336 PA.

The others according to OPS+ range from 71 (BeeeJ) to Heyward (108) with only Heyward being above the 100 mark.

What I said was factual. Put 6 average to slightly below average guys around those 2 guys and we have a top 5 offense.
 
So in other words if BJ Johnson and Simmons hit better our offense would be better? Omg! What a brilliant observation. If our team hit better we'd score more runs? Let me alert the presses of this breaking news.

Moving the conversation away from gilesfan for just a minute...

Here's a thought: Justin Upton, dark horse MVP candidate? A lot would have to go right, and I can't see it unless we go on a run and overtake the Nationals. But he's sitting on 24 home runs and 80 RBI. A reasonably solid last month and a half or so gets him to 30 homers and 100 RBI with a solid triple-slash line.

If he ends up around, say, .290/.370/.540 with 30 HRs and 100 RBIs on a division-winning club, and in a league without a runaway favorite (assuming there's the usual reluctance about tabbing Kershaw), Justin might be a viable candidate.

I don't consider him the MVP on his own team (Freeman), but he does have the shinier MVP looking numbers.

Puig has a good chance to win it based on playing in LA.

Stanton and Cutch I guess would get strong consideration as well. IMO, Stanton clearly deserves it.
 
I'd give MVP to Stanton as long as the Marlins stay afloat the rest of the way.

I love Freeman but would consider him second at this point to Justin. Justin gets unfair stuff thrown at him, but he's kept this team afloat.

It's worth noting for teh lulz, just for the benefit of the posters who were harping on Justin's RBI, that he's now 2nd in the NL and tied for 7th in MLB in that stat.
