8-28-14: GDT: Braves (Minor) @ Mets (Niese)

Overall a good night.

Braves finish up road trip with a series win against the Mets.
Saw some good things from the Falcons.
Spurrier got his ass beat.

I'll have to go back and check the box scores but it seems like Bonifacio has as many hits tonight as BJ has had in the last six weeks.

Fredi likes to go with the hot hand so maybe he'll play Boni instead of BJ. Ought to play Gosselin at 3b vs RHP too but I can't get my hopes too high.

In Fredi land, Gosselin can only platoon with Stella.

I don't think I would hit Bonifacio second full time, but he definitely should be in over BJ.

I love seeing this Minor. THIS guy is the one I thought last year had a chance to be the Ace of this staff. Hopefully he keeps it up!

Minor's last 4 starts: 28.1 IP, 2.24 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 2 HR allowed, 24 K/7 BB.

Good to see him pitching much better. Haven't seen his starts lately. Is he doing anything noticeably different? I know he had a longer break in between starts recently, but I don't think that is the reason for his improvement.

He isn't fuc*ing around. Not that nibbling shi* he always do.

That and he has developed a very good two seam fastball from working with Santana. It has great downward movement. That's why he's reduced the home runs and is getting so many more grounders.

ALSO his command has been better. He's hitting his spots like we know he's able to do. He's just been a much better pitcher of late, getting back to his old self. He's not totally out of the woods, but he looks like a different guy right now.

Minor has a tough spring this year. In a normal year he'd be rounding into form my late June and we would love him.

Yep. Quite true. Simpson during the broadcast last night said that Minor told him he had been short arming and that's what was giving him fits. Short arming makes control harder because it tends to make you elevate pitches. Mechanics wise he's looked good the last few games. Now he has a very good two seamer to go with what he had before.

This. If we do indeed make October....we now have four legit starters again.. I like our chances!!!

Unfortunately you have to consistently score runs to make and progress in the playoffs. Count us out...no matter how much Minor has turned around.
