Anyone amused at all the cable news white bread bitches

Drives me crazy when people begin questions with SO.
............................
It implies they already have an answer and they are just baiting you to --- god knows why.

I understand why Terry Gross of Fresh Air does it - it's her schtick and she uses it into a lead in for the answer, it shows her prepared to her audiance== I get that
What I don't understand why fist shakers and my wife do it
(you know who you are)

We're guys, we're supposed to **** talk back and forth.

Don't be such a stick in the mud all the time.

will get right on that

one day i hope to have some fun with such intelligent and hilarious banter as you have brought to me

This is a story I wish would die. Of course it was bad, but I hate when everyone tries to create hysteria around one incident because it suits their purposes. It's high profile and fits a certain narrative so they're going crazy with it. It shouldn't be the main story going on right now. I wish the sports shows would talk about the first week of football season rather than this, and the mainstream media would focus on the many other big stories going on right now.

This incident is bad, but it's not deserving of being the central rallying cry for women's groups.

in case anyone is curious why some people in the republican party are out of touch with the world

this thread is pretty much saying you should be able to hit women cause "they say they are equal to men". Picture that in your mind.

There are a lot things here that peeps just aren't comfortable discussing

More like there should be equal punishment for hitting a man or a woman. My main gripe is hearing people say you should never hit a woman, by saying that they are insinuating that there is nothing wrong with assaulting a man. They should be saying you should never hit anyone.

And I think dragging her unconscious by the hair is worse than punching her.

we already say that

that is what assault etc is

She back-handed him FIRST, before they got into the elevator, and had probably been giving him an earful for a while. Then, after he hit her the first time she didn't go down like she could have. Instead she came straight at him practically begging him to hit her. What did she say? "It was like a kiss?"

This was a domestic fight, not abuse by itself. I'd send them both to therapy and not suspend him more than a game or two.

Wow

He had a lot of options outside of decking her.
This close-grip benches 315 like it's a stick with marshmallows at the end.

Right. He can knock her out with an agitated flinch and during that instant he's not going down a list of things to do. This was a domestic fight with 2 aggressors. I'll bet you anything this was just jealousy. She went ballistic over how he was acting or how she imagined he was acting towards some other girl in the casino.

It's actually conceivable that he was completely innocent until he lost his temper and knocked her out cold. Okay, that sounds bad, but it's possible. He's got a dangerous temper but the femedians ;) are trying to call this your standard spousal abuse and I don't think it is. If it was it wouldn't be a one time thing. Why is she still with the guy and why does she look so sorry on tv and in her statement? She's the one acting guilty now. What if the whole thing was a misunderstanding and her fault?

Hey, I must be really old or have some traditional values I never thought I had, but it's never okay to strike a woman unless she is threatening you with lethal or crippling force with a weapon of some sort. Ray Rice goes 212. My guess is Janay Rice goes somewhere in the 140 range. When she charged at him in the elevator (after he had shoved her), he could have easily grabbed her arms and wrapped himself around her until the situation was calmed. Instead, he decked her. Better yet, he should have separated himself from her when she backhanded him by saying "I'm going for a walk alone and we'll talk about this later." Easy for me or anyone else to say being far removed from the situation and believe me, I've been in arguments with spouses and significant others where horrid things were said, but there has never been any physical violence because either me or my spouse had the good sense to remove ourselves from the argument when we realized we were reaching a point where something unduly nasty could have been said and who knows what happens after that point.

And Vol, last time I checked, Janay Rice wasn't training to be a fighter pilot.

No. It's never okay, but there are girls out there who don't go by those rules.

But you're right. She hits that railing at the wrong angle and he could've broken her neck or even killed her. People die all the time from a lot less.

Runnin, if the dude was scrawny and the women around 300lbs I can see how the guy would have a right to defend himself but this dude was built and she was a typical women. He could had done 1000 other things instead of knocking her out.

Some Women are ****ing psycho and she could have some sort of battered women's syndrome which would explain why she stuck by him.

Ray rice is a POS for doing this

Then remove yourself from the situation. Very difficult. I've been there. Ray Rice isn't that old and it's hard to learn where the line adjacent to the point of no return is. For all the yakking that goes on about political correctness, most of that discussion seems to be about the use of certain words instead of the assurance of respect and proper action.

I don't think society should have to consult Miss Manners on every little thing that goes into a day and how many forks comprise a formal place setting, but this is pretty basic stuff. Families of all races seem to be falling down on the job in this regard and as a result we're raising generations of unboundaried kids. I assure you I am not the perfect parent and my kids have had their share of issues. I realize mass culture is more pervasive than it was when I was growing up in the 1960s, but parents have to do a better job of instilling respectful behaviors. People gripe that schools get too invasive with the anti-bullying stuff, but if these kids aren't going to get it at home, where are they going to get it?

Done with my rant. I agree this has become a spectacle and I was frankly surprised when it led the CBS evening news over the impending Presidential address on ISIL, and maybe that's the problem. We worry too much about what isolated celebrities do and don't weed our own garden. We've become a nation of posers.

The feminist groups, the talking heads, and the general public seem to be focusing on the NFL. When did they see the tape? Is the commish lying! Fire him!

To me, all the NFL stuff is small potatoes.

My question is why isn't Ray Rice serving time? Court supervised counseling where there is indisputable, video evidence of him violently assaulting someone (a woman, no less)? Seems a little lenient to me, even if the woman doesn't want him charged...

Agreed. Goodell serves at the wishes of 31 of the richest white guys in America (and a medium-sized city in Wisconsin). And who is better at stone-walling than rich white guys assisted by their well-heeled attorneys and PR flacks? You expect these guys to come clean? Jeez, the concussion issue should have taught us that they certainly aren't interested in doing that.

But it is beside the point.

This may or may not be germane to the issue at hand, but the NFL is the most disgusting organization in the US this side of the KKK, or perhaps the NCAA. Always has been, always will be. No decent human being should give them a dime, ever. I don't know why anyone in sports media is pretending to be shocked—SHOCKED—that they're utterly full of ****.
