MLB Playoffs Thread

This just proves that once again nothing is certain to win in MLB playoffs. Have the best pitcher on the planet and a great staff? Who cares your ace just got rocked. Not like Wainwright fared much better. Pitching doesn't win in the playoffs. Small ball doesn't win in the playoffs. Playing your best at the right time does. And any team can do that regardless of how they are constructed.

Friday was one of the great days of baseball I can ever remember. Shame so many people slept through the end.

All four were pretty good games. They are way too drawn out, though. A 3-2, 9-inning game should not take 3.5 or 4 hours to play.

Typically, the teams that win and are "playing their best" are doing those things. Pitching well, getting timely hitting and advancing base runners.

You're not going to win with a team that swings for the fences and can't score a runner from third base and less than one out.

Yes if you are a team that swings and misses a lot and can't get a runner in from 3rd with less then two outs then you aren't going to win. However big strikeout teams with power do win, even in the playoffs. And teams with no real ace can also win as well. The notion that you need 1 or 2 true aces and a team that can manufacture runs to win in the playoffs is false. It's a crap shoot and always will be with the expanded format. You just need to build a team that's good enough to get there.

Explain to me then how the Braves went to 5 WS and more LCS than any other team in the 90's. It's much more than simply luck and getting hot. Well built teams continously go deep into the playoffs.

And 3 of those LCS appearances were by default before expanded playoffs. KC is about to beat the best team in MLB this year in the division series. But I guess then playing hot at the right time has nothing to do with it and they are just better.
