John Hart Turns Down GM Job

Wainwright for Drew was about as big of a rental deal as you're gonna find.

Drew was great for us that year, Waino would look great in our rotation.

I'm still more OK with that than Myers for shields, because position players and prospects are more stable than pitching prospects and players.

Yes. Because the ceiling for Price is way higher.

Shields had a boss year before they traded for him and Wade Davis was serviceable.

In hindsight trading for Shields and getting to the playoffs for the first time in decades worked out.

Myers may never live up to the hype.

He may never. But trades cannot be evaluated in hindsight. Myers could have been used in a differnet trade, or could hav eproduced way more. You never know.

Dayton was looking for the best deal possible and Myers was his best trading chip. Davis is in the pen now but 2 reliable starting pitchers with one being an ace on most teams was a fair trade.

All these people returning does make it seem like Wren was a problem. Of course, that just makes me wonder even more why we kept him around and let him **** on the organization. What a shame.

I'm not shocked, the Braves have a tendency of kicking people on the way out of the door. It happened to Leo, it happened to others as well. Unlesss they want someone to come back.

Yeah, these guys coming back to the organization is not a signal of the type of person Wren was.

I doubt it is just a coincidence.

It isn't and I was and still am a big Wren supporter. I think he was a solid GM but baseball is an organizational team structure. The GM often gets way too much credit and too much blame. Just like any other corporation you are only as strong as the people you put around you and too many great talent evaulators left the organization.

We have some company.

Teams that haven't won a World Series since we did in 1995: Tigers, Dodgers, Cubs, Mets among the big budget teams. Among middle to low budget teams: Rays, Orioles, Blue Jays, Twins, Royals, Indians, Rangers, A's, Mariners, Astros, Gnats, Brewers, Pirates, Reds, Padres, Rockies. A total of 20 teams haven't won since we last won.

That's not what I meant. Some team always gets lucky/hot in the postseason, and that team is never the Braves. The Braves always end up being that team that chokes or gets a bad break they can't recover from.

One thing I'll say for Moore is, that Shields trade is reallllly working in his favor at the moment.

Still dumb especially if he walks, and Myers turns into a stud for the next decade.

Yes it looks good if they win the WS, i suppose.

If all they got for Shields is a WS (awesome), and Wade Davis, then thats still a horrible move.

If they lost in the WC game, would he still be around?

Watching teams like the Royals this year and the Giants every even numbered year luck into deep playoff runs make it even harder to fathom how the Braves could have possibly fell flat in every postseason this century. Seriously, they couldn't get lucky just one year during this stretch?

Fair question, honestly.

Royals make the playoffs for the first time in 29 years, and now they're about to make the WS.

Carpe says the playoffs arent a crapshoot though.

The rebuilding of the @Braves' scouting staff continues - Tom Battista, who signed Freddie Freeman & Tommy Hanson, returns as crosschecker.

Its a braves tradition at this point.

If some of your aren't veteran fans, it is a depressing list:

Leo Mazzone
Glenn Hubbard
Javy Lopez
Frank Wren
Jim Schultz (PR man)
Andruw Jones (arguably)
Pat Corrales
Stan Kasten

Sure I could think of more if I wanted to get really depressed

Yep, pretty much my point too.
