My new top 4:

Miss St.
Florida St.
Ole Miss
Notre Dame

Notre Dame is 4th because they have the the best loss and one of the best wins. Bama and Auburn right behind them, but of course either team will be in it if they go undefeated from here on out.

never understood the concept of "good loss" or even worse, "quality loss".

Coach-speak for "never mind that man behind the curtain". After 60 minutes you either have more points than the other guy or you don't.
Notre Dame played one helluva game but in the end, they came up short.

All of the polls I see are based on Alabama being the best team in the country. Should MSU lose to Ala guaranteed Ala will be proclaimed #1. Though none of the top 3 SEC schools play out of the SEC. Unless Presbeteryan, UT Martin or W Carolina are viewed as a top notch out of conference opponent.

We have FSU out of conference vs Florida (every year) Oklahoma State (where has OK Hawk been ?) Notre Dame (great opponent this year) and Citidal ( Noles lost three D Linemen for no reason)

So come on Mississippi and Alabama teams travel or get home and home with someone other than tomato cans.

Consider how W Virginia played Alabama. Since taking Ala to the mat should they be a top 5 team now? They do have a "best win" over Baylor. Right?
 
My top four:

State of Mississippi, Florida State, and Alabama.

Alabama is gonna start absolutely deatroying teams.
 
57 there is no reason to worry about rankings. Florida State has a pretty easy schedule from here on out. They will be heavy favorites in the rest of their games. Barring some huge meltdown, they will be in the playoff. I couldn't agree more about what you said regarding out of conference games for schools in the SEC. I hope in the coming seasons the playoff will entice teams to schedule tougher opponents out of conference. This isn't just the SEC either, but everyone in college football.

I would love to see more home and homes like MSU-Oregon in back to back seasons.
 
We played really poorly in the second half, but I'm happy UGA won and Mason did better than I expected. I'm also really thankful that Driskel is still Florida's QB because our secondary is a mess.
 
I always thought out of conference scheduling was a problem for CFB in determining a champion.
For instance since it is the one most familiar with I 'll use FSU's this year schedule. When this schedule was made, Tebow and Urban Meyer were at Fla, ND was a mess and West Virginia was originally scheduled, rather than Citidal. The OK State game was added the end of last season

What about a few years ago Hawaii , or really good west coast teams, or one year wonders ---
Who saw Auburn last year playing the way they did .

Unless September and October are spent playing for seedings -- November and December for playoffs and January for a championship round.
That sounds like a scheduling nightmare. Hotels,transportation and home game receipts leading to huge - huge money problem.

Unless teams are willing to disband the traditional conferences . Meaning Kentucky that is on the rise would be shut out. Both monetarily and recruiting players.

And, Duke - MArshall this year. How good are they - should they have an opportunity to a Cinderella season ala CBB ??

We have to compare teams with completely different schedules. So yes, we have to look at stuff like who and how a certain team loses.

I mean a loss on the road vs FSU is a lot better for example than a loss at home to Arizona. You have to look at that sort of thing when considering who is or isn't deserving of a top 4 spot.

Well, WVU has two losses. But yes I would say that WVU has two good losses on their schedule and one good win. They're a pretty good team this year. Obviously the two losses are a minus on their resume but less of a minus than a bad win would be.
 
Home field advantage in Vegas is worth 3 points. ND lost by 4
How does that qualify as a quality loss .

Are we as western civilization ready to abandon the notion of points and scores and who actually wins and loses?

But there are three undefeated teams. I'm trying to distinguish between these three teams. And for #4 I'm trying to figure out the best one loss team. It's not just about wins and losses. Ole Miss beat one loss Bama by 7, so maybe I should rank them above FSU?
 
Alabama is by far the best one less team in the nation and arguably the best team in the nation. Wins and loses arent the deciding factor in how good a team is. Teams have bad days and sometimes teams play over thier heads.

nD was a 12 point underdog going into the FSU game. They played well. Held FSU to 50 yards rushing.
 
If you don't think Bama is one of the top teams in the nation, there is no sense arguing with you. They have had the No. 1 or 2 recruiting class the last like 5 or 6 yrs. They have the best coach in America.
