@DOBrienAJC: John Hart said #Braves love Heyward, but doesn't anticipate ext. in final year before FA: "My assumption is it's probably the wrong time."
that's good to hear
Probably wants to see an OPS over .800 before shelling out 25 million a year.
This is disappointing but I am not surprised. I am also not expecting Hart to do much, if any, better here than he did in Texas. Further, I had forgotten just how bad he was in Texas till a poster at MLBTR went over it in detail in the "Braves Name John Hart President Of Baseball Ops" discussion.
Then I deal him for a haul and stick with JUp
What type of haul?
No clue, what would opposing GMs offer?
If we're not going to extent Heyward, we need to trade him for a serious haul and try our best to just win it this year.
Maybe Hart is gonna wait and see how things are going midseason.
For me, no matter where we stand I'm trading Justin...and looking at the landscape and teams that are in win now mode....I'm looking at you Detroit.
Justin, CJ, and Walden would be really intriguing and fill some holes for them with Castellanos and JD Martinez coming our way.
I don't like assumptions, especially coming from an upper management baseball executive on a critical decesion like this.
I'm hoping it's more press posturing from Hart than anything else to push the Heyward camp forward to get a deal done.....
Because assumptions make an ass out of you. JS once assumed that Maddux wasn't going to accept arbitration, that didn't work out so well. He also assumed that Sheffield had no interest and was priced out of our range, only to cut off dialogue with his camp and that backfired. JS assumed Glavine was coming back.
Don't assume Hart, keep dialogue open.
