So, no Jason extension?!

One of the aspects that I am consistently seeing overlooked in purely statistical valuations of Jason Heyward is the dude's pristine marketability, which is especially relevant in a demographic setting like metro Atlanta and its suburbs.

It doesn't seem as though he has fully embraced a Captain-like leadership role on the team, but if I'm weighing the pros of a long-term extension that is the kind of trajectory I see evolving for him. That, combined with what is by all accounts a sensational work ethic, media friendly attitude, and strong presence in the community are all elements that deserve some monetary weight.

Maybe Premier Hart doesn't see Heyward in a 'Franchise' light. If he does, then the posture needs to redirect toward public accommodation in rather short order. No more of this cavalier, tight-lipped, smarmy 'we'll see in a year' nonsense. The language should be more along the lines of, 'We want this guy to be a part of the core of our club for years to come.' Period.

Heyward is worth $20MM+ per year, right now. If his defensive contributions in 2015 match those demonstrated in 2013/14 and he improves offensively, even menially, his market value is going to be reasonably beyond the team's means. Now is the time to lock him down, IMO.

All of this.

That don't sound good

Braves*president of baseball operations John Hart tells David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he doesn’t envision*an extension for*Jason Heyward*this offseason (Twitter*links). That’s not due to a lack of interest on Atlanta’s behalf, but rather due to Heyward’s proximity to free agency. With Heyward set to hit the open market next winter, Hart said that his assumption is it’s “probably the wrong time,” though he said the team*could still try to sign Heyward as a free agent.

It sounds like Heyward is intent on testing FA to me , which might be agent driven because something isn't meshing up . Hart knows their stance I'm sure, and Heyward wants to be here per the previous article, but now no traction ? That sounds like an agent that said "we have come this far, let's see what's out there"

I'd trade him and still try like hell to sign him when he hits the FA mkt.

If Heyward said no to extension talks, wtf is Hart supposed to do? Offer him 10 years 300 million to get him to change his mind? Maybe he doesn't want to stay in Atlanta, but no, it's the Braves fault, being cheap and all.

I don't understand how people can be upset. We seemingly have done everything we could to retain Jason as long as possible within our means. He never seemed open to a long term extension in the past, and always seemed intent on reaching free agency.

Don't defensive contributions diminish as a player ages? Are we sure Heyward will always be this elite defensively because if his offense doesn't consistently improve and his defense slips then he will be massively overpaid.

You know, I think you are correct. We swapped figures with him the last offseason and because of injury and a lack of offense his camp balked, and another average offensive season likely has his camp saying lets see whats out there anyway because they figure at any minute he will break out. I'd probably do the same.

Send him somewhere miserable, then bring him back! lol

@DOBrienAJC: John Hart said #Braves love Heyward, but doesn't anticipate ext. in final year before FA: "My assumption is it's probably the wrong time."

**** john hart, **** bobby cox, **** john schuerholz and **** fredi

Jason needs to be back here. If he wants to be gone, then so be it. But, we need him back with everything possible. If not, trade him and do it soon. I am just frustrated. Whether it's the front office or with him.

No way do you pay this clown 20m + for his defense...he doesn't want to be here people, open your eyes...stop acting like a bunch of pussies and move on from him. Trade his ass...
