Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

#Braves Heyward: "As far as me being here long term or not, I feel like the fans had more discussions with me than the front office."

Is Heyward denying the front office had discussions with him?

Makes me wonder if the FO is back to the "we are holier than art thou, therefore we won't have any conversations with evil (agents) and follow their demands" of the JS days when there was little to no dialogue with agents during negotations whether it was with our own players or others on the open market. Seemed at that point in time that the only players we acquired we're ones that we're openly and willingly to come here and play for Bobby and sign on our terms. I thought Wren (despite his shortcomings) did well in improving in this area, as we even made a deal with the devil (Boras) during his tenure.

But it appears we are back to the "economics of baseball stink" and finger pointing and blaming agents, and shutting that door and not opening it

Maybe they don't want to come out and say that Heywards demands were unreasonable in their eyes. Heyward is going to get paid more than the Braves were going to be able to pay him. I think its a move that makes sense considering they've already tried to extend him. His defining skill is one that diminishes faster than any skill. Lets see if he learns how to hit better in the future.

"We explored the option of Heyward staying and decided trading him was the best decision for the team." There you go. Simple. Thorough. Professional. Not, "I didn't really know if he would stay with us or not, so I decided to trade him."

Come on Hawk... I think we all know the kind of money Heyward will get... wake up

Jason blatantly telegraphed his desire to make things work in Atlanta (financially) with these quotes that are leaking out now.

I would have had no qualms about giving him $180MM ... which I think would be a nice little discount.

Actually I like Heyward, I just realize his value to the rest of baseball isn't 3 top 10 prospects and you do not.

Hell if you know? You just said they didn't take the best offer! LOL

I wasnt expecting 10 Mike Trouts but they could have gotten a better deal than what they did.

The DBacks also put themselves into that situation by dogging the hell out of Justin publicly and made it known they didn't like him and wanted to trade him.

Well, Hart probably would have done that with Jason, so I guess it's for the best he beat himself to the punch and unloaded him early in the offseason.

Development is also a big sign to look for in a young SP. Look at the improvements Miller made in the 2nd half. Miller currently is a solid middle of the rotation starter with the ability to get much better. He's got legit front line stuff.

The Cards trusted Miller so much they started Lance Lynn and John Lackey over him in the playoffs.

Here's this; I guess

Then you say "Based on our conversations, we didn't feel we were going to be able to come to terms."

Not what he did say - which was basically:

"I'm not sure if he wanted to stay or not, so we covered our asses and found a team willing to give us their 6th best pitcher for him."

Well what if Heyward was giving them mix signals and they couldn't take the risk of losing him at the end of this year?

Uggg... that would be a garbage deal... no thanks

That's because our system is crap right now.

Aye Aye !

I realize the Braves have a telepath and a smoke signal reader on the payroll. But I would have confirmed things with a phone call to his agent. I mean Hart has found time for a day of golf with BJ and "conversations" about an extension with Justin. Why couldn't he do something similar with Jason.

The Braves Way of doing things is going to catch up with this franchise.

On a more amusing note, I got a chuckle out of this.

He stated that the last discussions regarding a long-term deal were in the 2013 pre-season and lasted a few minutes.

I thought I remember reports that they offered Heyward the same deal that was offered to Freeman this past offsesaon. Is that not accurate ?
