Braves Meeting with Lester

"I don't think they've quit at all," Cox said. "I'm familiar with the clubhouse. It's as high-energy as you could possibly get under the circumstances. I think Fredi has done a remarkable job since he took over in 2011. I think he's just been outstanding. There have been difficult times -- even last year, to win 96 games with things that were taking place.".

By the way, what was taking place?

Two well-paid starters got so bad at hitting a baseball that it was absolutely astounding that the club was in contention, let alone running away with the NL East.

So, once again, and to make it crystal clear for Dalyn, not everyone thinks Fredi is a poor manager. Not every fan, and not the decision makers.

You do.

Jon Heyman: Sources suggest the Cubs have bid $138 million over six years for Lester, and the Red Sox suggested at least a willingness to go to $130 million for six years, while word is the Braves, Lester's current hometown team, bid somewhat lower than that. It's possible also that Chicago and Boston will go up from there, if they haven't already.

Jesus. Over 130 million dollars is ridiculous. The man is 31 years old. I would absolutely love to have him, but no way for that.

There is a lot of pitching available this off-season. The market is over supplied. Teams that wait will get the bargains.

Heyman even speculated that Lester was well-positioned to secure $150MM. There may be a lot of pitching available, but there's an equal amount of well-monied teams looking to upgrade TOR pitching (Boston/NYY/Chicago/SFGiants).

We shouldn't even be bidding for the TOR guys. Much better to develop those internally and go for less risky types of players when we do pay market rates.

The big free agent names pretty much always go for the money... but it would be pretty incredible for him to take the discount for the sake of his family and proximity. Let's be honest, he doesn't NEED to take the big money at all... it's just a thing that happens.

Make the right decision Lester... come to Atlanta.

Meh, i'd like him but it would make trading that #22 guy even more stupid.

I read today where Bruce Bochy flew to Atlanta to court Lester as a part of the Giants bid. That made me laugh.

#Braves did not make an offer to Lester. Saw where price was going and didn't think they could make competitive offer.
