Braves donate Justin Upton to Padres for prospects

In this potential 3-way with SEA, TB and SD, it is said that SD would get Walker. I thought they wanted more hitting. Is it possible they flip Walker to ATL for JUP?

Maybe I'm alone in this thinking, but I'm thinking SD won't flip Walker to us. Their rotation is going to be sick if that were to happen and I know they want another bopper, but if the Mariners are trading Walker, why wouldn't they have accepted some of the better deals offered to them? I don't see us in on a three way. Or even see Walker becoming a Brave.

That's literally the last thing I wanted to read this morning.

True dat.

The Nats been looking to move Desmond and SD needs a SS, so it makes you wonder if the Padres will try to get both Myers and Desmond.

FWIW, possible character concerns on Wil Myers. I've read of some concerns on Tijuan Walker too. Allegedly was pulled from the AFL due to poor behavior. A couple of young and talented guys that may benefit from a reset.

Different journalists have been weighing in on what might be going on in the pending Wil Myers trade, which (again) is shocking. Myers is a former rookie of the year with raw power and some decent athleticism and a cannon of an arm (thanks to his time as catcher) that we have yet to see displayed. He broke his wrist last season, unable to bounce back properly from the sophomore slump, and has some holes in his swing that can presumably be cleared up with solid coaching.

This is also Wil Myers, the guy who eats too much fast food, who admitted to not trying very hard, who refused to cut his hair with the rest of the team and staff for charity, who get's as great a wrap as BJ Upton did in Tampa Bay with less defense.

it would be cool if we made moves instead of allowing every other team in the division to get better. I know I'm speaking out of frustration here, but we've helped our team to an extent, but only to allow others to get way better.

As I cautioned a couple weeks ago, Hart waited too long to trade JUp/Gattis, and now teams are moving on to Plan B and C. I think it's time to be prepared to watch the Braves keep JUp for 2015, win about 80 games, get a non-protected first round pick in the 2016 draft (thus making it more costly to sign premium FAs in the offseason), and then watch JUp leave for nothing more than the 35th pick in the next draft.

This is exactly how mediocre teams remain mediocre indefinitely.

Eh could go both ways. Arizona is mediocre because they traded J Up for essentially nothing. Bad trades can be more costly than no trades.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until either something happens or November comes around next year and we lose J Up for a pick. It's still Novemeber and I'm not gonna let Justin ruggiano be the decider of our fate.

Also this seemingly opens a spot up in Chicago's OF. I won't rule them out as a suitor

Cubs apparently are pursuing Jonny Gomes

Saw this a little while ago . . .

@BNightengale
The #Braves still believe they will trade Justin Upton by Christmas holidays, but if #Padres get #Rays Myers, they say are out of running.

Looking like we might get left on the dance floor with no partner.

Unless I read incorrectly, Justin can veto a trade to the Cubs.

Doesn't matter. The Cubs OF will be Coghlan, Alcantara and Soler. They will probably add a RHed bat to platoon with Coghlan in LF.

Once the Padres get Myers there won't be many trade partners left...pretty much only the O's and Giants. At that point they can lower their offers for JUp, and the Braves will get a poor return.

Hart simply waited too long to pull the trigger, and all the suitors moved on to other options. JUp's value will not be maximized this offseason because Hart messed up. JUp should have been traded either immediately before or after Cruz signed (which was right after Tomas signed) when the number of suitors was highest.

I read people pumped that other RH outfielders were off the market, but that leaves Upton on the market with no takers?

Did we hold out for the farm for Upton while dealing Heyward for a little more than peanuts?

Oh my God... An established MLB pitcher with top of the rotation upside and a big time starting prospect is peanuts?
