Pretty sure that's similar to the agreement Uggla and Fredi had.
 
The money is not bad for Pierzynski at all, I was expecting him to get $5-6MM and maybe two years. The Braves must have promised him significant playing time.

That's my guess. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him starting in June.

Since popping off with some personal butthurt about the Heyward trade, I've been pretty quiet about big-picture stuff here—the direction of the team, the hint of a strategy, etc. I don't want to gripe for the sake of griping. It's been a great run. If we have to spend a couple of years in the wilderness, so be it. I can deal with that.

Jason Grilli? Whatever. I don't like it, but I can at least see the upside in a potential flip. Nick Markakis? I don't love the years, but I like the guy. But this? Criminy. Sign a AAAA catcher for pennies. Spending real American dollars on a guy who sucks AND is an acknowledged asshole? I wonder if these guys have a clue.
 
Not rooting for this team this year. Trade away far and away my favorite brave, and then sign the biggest douchebag in baseball, wake me up in 2017, I'll only be here for Freeman and Kimbrel.
 
Hart on the signing:

Look When you look at a guy like him, you see all the battle scars, someone that is going to do whatever it takes to win and some people, look, especially those on the other side of the fence may not like that. The guy is going to bring something that has been lacking for some time, and look, that's an in your face attitude to this clubhouse. Look, all offseason we looked and tried to move Chris Johnson, and we tried our darnest, but look their just was no demand in the market for a guy with his services, so deep down inside, look, we know what we are doing, we understand with this move their is going to be a meltdown in the clubhouse and we will be able to void ourselves of that contract."
 
There's no getting around the fact that he's not well liked and can be a huge a*s. But he's a good backup catcher for us that can contribute more offensively then any other backup option out there. Yes he's an a*s but he's continuoustly on winning teams. There's a reason he keeps getting picked up by good teams. I like the signing and like the fact that we're adding a fiery personality to the team which has been way overdue.

It's going to be a train wreck, but I'll be going to plenty of games this season -- Turner Field will be basically empty by the summer and resell tickets are going to be super cheap all season.

Now if only beer prices figured into a team's competitiveness ...
