"Nationals infielder Dan Uggla dealt with oculomoter dysfunction the past couple seasons, according to the Boston Globe.

Uggla saw major decline in his numbers after being hit in the head with a pitch back in 2012. Former major-league Marquis Grissom experienced a similar situation during his career, and recommened Uggla see orthopedist Robert Donatelli. Donatelli discovered the oculomoter dysfunction, which impacted his ability to see the ball when moving his head. Donatelli recommended a set of exercises for Uggla, and declared Uggla's vision to be back to normal after two weeks."

With the caveat that I think Uggla is still going to be useless, I will say that this pains me, having once given the Mets such hell about their medical staff. What an embarrassment this would be.

After checking BR, he fell apart well before getting beaned so I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it. And his numbers in 2012 before and after July are pretty close.

didn't he have that weird 30 something game hitting streak after June? He never "saw the ball" better as a Brave then during that time. Color me highly skeptical on this.

Uggla would be the perfect deflection from all the other things that they bitch about.

Of course not.

But if the medical staff had correctly diagnosed him, he could have been placed on 60 day DL instead of being released. The downside there would have been minimal, imho. You've spent the money, so you could have seen what he had in Spring Training.

That was in 2011, when in the second half he was an absolute beast.
