Yes, the Thunder are avoiding the tax right now as are 95% of the league. There is a reason the CBA was instituted and its working.

The Nets were really good last year. Not a great team. They are doing alright this year. Their young players are better than many thought like Plumlee.
 
royceyoung: One thing to note: The deal currently puts the Thunder over the luxury tax threshold by $1.492 million.

What other justification would there be then to draft Huestis other than to save money?

The international argument is irrelevant because it doesn't answer the merit of picking a guy that they had no intention in playing.

I'm not saying it's a a murderous sin to avoid the luxury tax. All that I am suggesting that it appears to be affecting their draft strategy. The whole reason I brought it up in the first place is because it doesn't make sense for them to trade a 1st for a guy that isn't very good and especially since Their GM has a proven track record of being excellent at drafting. I'm just wondering why they seem to be placing less emphasis on the draft recently. I'm not even suggesting that I'm right. I was legit asking a question before the Thunder crusaders came in and trampled the point to death.

How is the international argument invalid. If the sole purpose was to avoid the tax then why bring the spotlight on yourself by drafting a domestic player? It doesn't make any sense at all. The scenario that I presented a couple of pages back makes much more sense and was rumored after the draft.

You don't need to make a draft pick every single year. This doomsday scenario of Durant leaving has been overplayed so much. Its going to come down to two teams. OKC and Washington. Both have excellent young players to surround Durant with and of course Washington is home. If KD stays then this first round pick is absolutely worthless since the team is stacked iwth young talent along with young talent stashed overseas.

I know you don't like the trade so I'm not expecting you to defend it, but I find this to be very confusing logic.

I know you'll laugh after I say it but I'm going to say it anyway. I believe that Ish Smith can be a decent backup PG. Nothing special, not even a top 10 backup PG but he is a pass first guy and has surprisingly played really well when given a chance.

Its not working anymore with Reggie Jackson. The guy thinks he is a HOF player (seriously, he has said this). Its hurting the team and hurting the young players on the second unit. Presti should be able to get a late first rounder for Reggie and then insert Waiters into the second unit with a true pass first PG. Then you have Ish/Waiters/Morrow/Jones/Perk. Not incredible but some talent on that second unit.

Again, I know everyone is going to laugh at me now but I think that is the plan.
 
Damn, has Reggie Jackson been reading your posts on here, thethe? How else would he get all this confidence?

I would agree with you if only there wasn't a pre draft deal that was made in advance.

Whatever. It doesn't matter what either of us say it's pure conjecture. I just find it to be a puzzling selection. But nobody has perfect drafts. And the jury is out on both Huestis and McGary so I guess we will see.

Reggie is a good player and I have not changed my evaulation on him. I've said that he could start on 1/3 of the teams the league and still stand by that. But for some strange reason he thinks he is Michael Jordan. I watch every Thunder game and its not working this year. Its becoming a problem.
 
He's right with Reggie, i dont watch all the games but once he's gone to the bench, he hasnt been the same.

If they traded him, im not sure what they could get.

By the time Okafor is a really good NBA player Melo is not even going to be a top 20 player. If the plan is to have Melo as either your 1 or 2 in the fuutre then you are in trouble.
