SOTU?

How else are we supposed to pay for everyone's "free" community college education?

More free stuff you get the more likely it is that liberals will keep getting voted into office.

Maybe people should just learn how to save and pay for their own damn schooling.

For starters, I pay over $300/month school tax. They can stop wasting that. Second, they can (and this plays into the stop wasting part, too) cut the 11th and 12th grade and replace those with the two free years of community college. They are basically worthless.

I loved my 11th/12th grade years. I earned a full years worth of college credits in that time.

Awesome. There are some who are made aware of the advantages. Many aren't. In my school, the teachers assumed the smart kids had it covered and only made sure the other kids knew all their options. That sort of thing happens a lot. This way, all can end 12th grade with two full years of college credits AND the mystique of college is destroyed before they have to make the next leap.

Nevermind, you are saying if the community college option existed.

Two full years? Has high school changed that much since I graduated in 2001? I would have only been able to get another 8 credits worth if I took additional classes.

I'm saying if you drop the 11th and 12th completely and instead go to college full-time.

I'm just not sure its smart idea to expose 16-18 year olds to people that go to community college. I'm just not sure they are ready for that yet.

Yeah, I caught that too late. See my edited post above.

But what about those that aren't ready to go take those classes?

What about vocational schooling?

I think that should be an option. Some are better suited for it, but I also think that sometimes that's the easiest thing for people in charge to say, instead of demanding more. That's all it takes for a lot of these kids. Demand more from them while acting like that is something they can give. Most will surprise you.

If you do it in place of the 11th and 12th grade, you can have the buses deliver them and they can have dedicated classes with their peers.

I just don't think higher education is for everyone. In reality, I don't think its the best option for a majority of people. The only reason I would say it should be done is to get people in the door for better jobs but as soon as your plan happens then the demands will get higher and even less people will be able to achieve those standards.

There would still be integration with adults that would not be ideal IMO.
