Technology Nerd Thread

One thing I hate about new PCs, is that you have to use the function key to use the f keys. I use F5 way more than other things. At least they could have left F5 blank.

Fully agree. It seems like there is a way to flip it, but I can't figure out how. I did it once last year but have no idea how.

They met with Tesla last year about purchasing tesla. I guess its cheaper to spend 1-2 billon on r&d than $20 billion or whatever Tesla is worth today to purchase them

Right but Teslas doesn't make any money. I'm surprised Apple is going down a road that will likely be a very unprofitable one

I should say, I fixed the issue, I had to go into the UEFI to switch the setting around. It's just more of a grumble from me as I knew how to fix it. I wish it was more customizable. like I like volume control with the F9-11 keys as those are basically worthless, But not F2, F3, or F5. I use them.

Tesla isn't making money yet because they're building up a demand that the supply can't meet. They're also living in the luxury market at 70K plus. When they get into the mid-market of 30K, they'llbe making money hand over fist. THey're projected to make a proper profit by 2020. And that's without the Apple Advertising machine behind it. Just guessing, I think Apple is going to start doing heavy R&D like Google has been. Google is constantly in the news with it's various R&D projects I think Apple would like that level of recognition.

Any recommendations on the best TV I could get for $500? Looking for something in the 50" range.

I know nothing in this area, best brand, specs, bla bla bla.

Even in these days, it will be tough to find a nice 50 incher for around 500. I mean you will find 50 inchers in that range but they'll almost for sure have some defect or another. But as far as things to look for to guide you, you definitely want a 120 hz refresh rate, after that nothing is super important aside from the inputs matching your needs. My TV has 4 HDMI inputs and all 4 are used, I couldn't by with 3 or less (Wii, XBox, TV and Bluray soon to be XB1)

I would find a model and read a ton of reviews on how well it handles blacks and how bad glare is on it. Those aren't tracked in specs (contrast ratio comes close to telling you blacks) if you get a chance to see it check it out.

Big changes in the GS6. No removable battery or expandable storage. Also instead of plastic the back will be Gorilla Glass.

Same 5.1 inch display but upped to Quad HD. It comes with a 64 bit processor that actually has the 3 gigs of ram to utilize that architecture.

Overall it looks like a beast. I may look into buying one and hacking it to oblivion to get rid of Samsung bloatware.

S6 edge announced, still think it's a gimmick.

What's weird is Galaxy S6 will come bundled with Microsoft apps. That has to piss off Google. Microsoft signign agreements to get onto Android devices. WIll be interesting to see if they include something people want (like office) not just junk apps like ONe note, or an app people will either use ro never like Skype.

HBO Now announced, 14.99 and Apple gets 3 months of exclusivity. Apple's announcement coincided with Apple TV price cut. Apple seems to want to get a massive influx in it's TV users before their later this year or next year launch of the next gen apple tv.

Just in time for game of thrones it seems

Need some tech assistance. Does anyone know how I can setup multiple direct TV recievers?

Basically I want to have both TVs in the same room. I have two receivers and a splitter thing.

Cabke in wall goes in splitter. two cables from output in splitter go to coax in on both dtv receivers. Then you can either connect the receivers to tvs via hdmi or component cable.

I will try this tonight and let you know how it works. It looks like there is a splitter already coming out of the wall and both ports are being used.

Meh. I lost my first ever cell phone during my trip in San Diego...

Now I have to decide on whether getting Note 4, Blackberry Classic or iPhone 6 plus.

Had no idea about this... Blackberry releasing a full-sized touchscreen phone with a qwerty slider (like my old Torch, and the old Dell Venue Pro). Rumored to be working with Samsung on this, so it may be compatible with Android.

This is what I wanted all along... I may have to get the Blackberry Classic temporarily until then. YES.

THat design was ditched years ago for a reason, the consumer market cares more about a thin phone than a physical keyboard.

Glad it excites you though.
