Spring Training 2015

Callaspo boots a DP ball. Embarrassing-looking misplay. And yes, he does look pretty thick and his body language leaves a little something to be desired.

Throw in the history of domestic violence, and he looks like a real winner.

Capps ain't foolin' no one with his 86-87 mph fastball. That last ball was nailed but wind blowing in kept it in the park (otherwise it's a two-run homer). Nice job by Perez in LF too.

If Capps want to continue his career he'll need to go to Gwinnett.

Bethancourt lazily tries to backhand a ball he should have gotten in front of. Shades of his performance last year when Fredi mentioned that he was tired. To be fair, he has looked good stopping 2 or 3 other balls in the dirt. Needs more consistent effort.

Yea, he looked lazy going after that ball. But I saw the same from him in the minors regularly so I am not buying last Sept. effort being just due to fatigue. He is just lazy at times IMO.

Here's video of the EY Jr diving catch.

I love the new small ball approach. This team has a 1991 feel to it.

Exact same sentiment Smoltzie expressed last night when talking about the Cubs - compared the Lester/Ross/Fowler additions to Bream/Pendleton/Belliard adds..."guys that KNEW how important preparation was and weren't interested in letting you slide just because you were young and learning on the job. They weren't brought in to lose".

That's a big part of the reason I loved the Gomes signing, never have been bothered by the Markakis deal, and even kinda like that they brought Pierzynski in - if there's one thing that these kids will learn from them it's to HATE losing, and losing because you haven't done everything in your power to be ready to play won't be tolerated.

Was Miller just bad or was there an injury concern.

As per the Graham discussion, I can see both sides of the argument. I just don't know why they converted him from a college reliever to a minor league starter. The Twins have him in the bullpen and he may be able to stick as the last guy in an AL bullpen (Twins did that with Johan Santana when they obtained him as a Rule 5 guy). I just could never figure out why the Braves did that with guys recently, but especially with Graham. It's my guess that if the Twins don't keep him, the Braves will take him back. I do think the choice of protecting Gil, Cunniff and a couple of other guys instead of Graham is clearly debatable, but the player development guys see a lot of these guys and make their evaluations. I tend to trust them.

Here's a neat little note: The Braves moved Albies (among several others) to the big league camp for the day and sent him to the road game in New York. Peraza started that game at short, but in the late innings, Peraza moved over to second and Albies came in at short! Don't know if they saw any action together, but what a tasty glimpse at the future.
