Spring Training 2015

We can trade Sutton for Chip? Hell can we trade the radio for tv or at minimum let them switch like the old days on TBS?
IMO Sutton's style is more suited for radio. It gives him more time to stretch out and weave tales along with keeping listeners somewhat up to speed.

Ken Rosenthal with news on opt-outs for Stults and Wang. Wandy figures to have a late March / early April opt-out as well, but that is not certain.

"Teams looking for another starter figure to scout the Braves, who do not figure to keep all three of their veterans on minor-league contracts – righty Chien-Ming Wang and lefties Eric Stults and Wandy Rodriguez. Stults can exercise an out on April 3, shortly before the season starts, according to a source with knowledge of is contract. Wang’s out is not until July 1, while the potential of Rodriguez to escape his deal – and when – is not known."

I hope Cody Martin gets a shot. If he fails so what, one step closer to that #1 draft pick so we can pick whatever high ceiling pitcher is recovering from TJ surgery.

Fredi says that Cody Martin is now in the mix for one of the two open rotation spots.

"Why not? He’s deserving, he’s earned that opportunity,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “It’s wide open. We went from having a fifth spot open to having two spots open. Why not put him in the mix there?"

Exactly the same situation we were in with Hale before he was moved. Give him a shot and hope he does well enough that someone will give up a useful piece for him if they think he'd fit at the back of their rotation. I personally wouldn't mind seeing him moved for the exact same type of return - we can certainly use some young catching depth behind Bethancourt and Briceno.

Martin was a relief pitcher in college and I've been critical of the Braves' approach of trying to convert college relievers into starting pitchers as professionals, but it may work with Martin (who isn't a power pitcher). He's pitched well enough to earn a shot. I wonder if the Braves would consider moving him back to the bullpen if the arms they have signed don't work out.

Ugh. I'm firmly in the camp not at all interested in trading Martin.

Pretty early for cuts, but can't argue with any of these. I smell a DFA in Ian Thomas' near future.

@Braves
LHP Ian Thomas & IF Elmer Reyes optioned to Gwinnett; RHP Matt Capps, catchers Yenier Bello & Tanner Murphy & IF Johan Camargo re-assigned

I'm a little surprised on the early cuts of Thomas and Reyes. It could be an innings/AB thing for both of them. I've been a supporter of Reyes, but if Peterson can play SS adequately, Reyes may be headed for the DFA pile. That would be especially true if Camargo is projected to be in AA at some point this season.

I certainly hope dak is wrong about Thomas as I like him. And I wouldn't DFA Reyes either at this point. But I don't see him in our long-term plans so unless traded I could see him DFA'd eventually.

Game is on MLBN (Nats announcers) Wandy looks good. No gun on the screen but he looks like his velocity is good, jamming them.

Wandy has worked two clean innings with two Ks versus the Nats, mostly against big leaguers (and Uggla). EY hit a 2-run shot off Roark, 2-0 good guys.

I missed it as I forgot the game was on TV, but I'll check it out later via my MLB.TV account. I am watching it now live but I missed the first few innings. Good to hear Wandy pitched better today.
