Spring Training 2015

It's not impossible for Melvin to get back closer to his pre-Atlanta norms. Not saying I expect a moderately big improvement, but it could happen, I think.

And why exactly does everything have to be quantifiable to be considered a legit argument in baseball anymore?

It doesn't. But to have a legit argument, you have to start with an actual premise. It can be right or wrong on its merits, but it has to be defensible. A lot of what you've said for the last year is about the secret sauce that winners apparently must have. According to you, this year's team has it, while last year's team didn't. If that's your opinion, fine. But don't expect a great argument when you're basically starting with a tautology--"teams win because they're winners."

I think so, too. Of course, I thought the same thing last year. ;-)

There was talk last week from the Cards side that Upton was a candidate to be released. Personally I don't believe it or it would've already happened.

Well Russell's been given the heave ho.

Braves To Release James Russell
By Zach Links [March 29, 2015 at 8:05am CDT]
The Braves have released left-hander James Russell, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com (via Twitter). The Braves will owe him roughly $600K.

On Saturday, Bowman indicated that Russell could be released due to his struggles this spring. Luis Avilan also impressed in recent weeks as Russell faltered, which didn’t help the 29-year-old’s cause.

We would have had to pay him $2,425,000 instead of now owing him $606,000, saving us $1,819,000, quite a nice chunk of change. Wonder what we might do with it.

Time for Malone to go buy some more land.

Pay KJ to be the other half of the LF platoon (until Melvin comes back at least). With the surprise early dismissal of Perez, I'm beginning to think the final two OFs will be KJ and Cunningham - they'd certainly give us the most flexibility since Cunningham is pretty much the only guy left in camp that can handle CF defensively without hurting you (and both corners as well).
