Spring Training 2015

Which is part of the extra tv money I listed. Regardless, we have at least 25 million to spend. Even accounting for the salary increases, we'll still have over 15 million freeing up

In today's market that doesn't buy you jack squat, much less for a team with this many holes.

A few reliever flyers, a bench bat or two, and a back end SP and that's your 15 mill.

Despite your disdain for Markakis, he should be a positive contributor, at least offensively for the foreseeable future. And again, you don't need stars at every position. We find 2-3 more players who are average-above average at their position, and this team will be competitive.

Finding 3 above average players should be easy.

Many think we got the better end of the 'Stros and Cards trade sooooo...

And when Peterson provides more value over the next six years (discounted) than Upton would in 1 year then people will realize that the Braves got the better end in the Padres deal as well. But hey...lets just spew irrational hatred!

That is not apples to apples.

Regarding 2016 payroll . . . while Uggla's $13.25m comes off the books, the raises that we owe players under contract equal almost that exact amount and cancel each other out: Freman ($3.5m), Simmons ($3m), Teheran ($2.3m), Kimbrel ($2m), CJ ($1.5m), Upton ($1m).

We may also have arbitration raises for the following if not traded or non-tendered: Minor, Miller, Outman, and maybe Vizcaino depending on service time.

I have our projected 2015 payroll at $103m based on some pretty uncontroversial assumptions of the OD roster. I would guess that we'll have the capacity to spend closer to $120m next year, but that remains to be seen.

Yeah, it does. We have yet to see that Liberty will actually open the purse strings.

Niners already stated he knows nothing about Peterson and hasn't followed him during ST... he also stated he knows nothing about the players we got from Houston or San Diego... obvious troll job is obvious.

Nor should I want to learn about these bums we will trot out everyday. This seems like the beginning of the movie "Major League." Only there will be no close to happy ending.

John Hart himself says payroll expected to be north of 100 million and south of 120 for 2015. Now that leaves a lot of room for argument, but let's split the difference and assume 110 million is our max this year we can spend, including in season trades as well. It's a safe bet to assume payroll increases going towards the opening of the new stadium and with the new money coming in from TV deals. Likely closer to 120 or more.

Currently, payroll is at 92 million, per Cots, without factoring in the last 6 roster spots. Payroll will likely fall around the 98 million mark when the season begins, but for arguments sake, let's call it 100 million.

At the end 2015, we'll likely be parting ways with KJ, JJ, Gomes, Wandy, Callaspo, and Pierzirski. Combined with being rid of Uggla's 13.2 million and Russel's half million. That's right at 25 million we are clearing.

Now we currently only have 72 million committed to 9 players for 2016. We only have 4 arby eligible players. Minor, Outman, Miller, and Avilan. So let's assume we retain all 4 players and 12 million goes to arby for those players (and 12 million is being a little generous). That's 84 million for 13 spots. We should have at least another 6-7 players that should make the team as pre arby players. That leaves right around 20 million and possibly more to spend, depending on where you think payroll will be at.

Edit: I see Dak's post and see I forgot Viz among Arby guys.

But you're forgetting the increases to non-ARBY players... I'll quote Dak from above:

I am not forgetting those raises. They are already included in the numbers i listed for committed contracts for 2016.
