Grade the front office this offseason.

I just odn't get how we can complain about the returns for Heyward/J-Upt. If the argument is that you didn't feel the need to tradeone of them then thats fine but I thought the return for one year players was really good.

My exact thoughts! The return for 1 yr of Heyward and Upton was awesome imo.

B.

I liked most of the trades. I wasn't high on La Stella and I still think Viz could be an elite bp arm, so I liked it fine. Markakus I don't get.

I don't think you can score it higher than a B because I'm not sure we got any guys that higher than B prospects. We had a year of JUpton and Heyward. Multiple, cheap year of Gattis. Multiple years of CK.

Maybe you could count unloading BJ as an elite prospect level. We've gotten a lot of guys I like. But for all of that we didn't get one can't miss guy. So I don't see how you can go A. IF we are actually good next year w/ these pieces and in the playoffs in 2017, then A. But that takes a lot of things going right for us IMO.

Heyward & Walden Trade - C+ - Including Walden in this deal drops it from a B+ to a C+ for me.

Justin & Northcraft Trade - C+ - Jace looks good enough to increase this from a C- to a C+ for me, but it is still ridiculous that we centered a Justin Upton trade around Max Fried.

Gattis & Hoyt Trade - A - We were going to use Gattis in LF and destroy his value. Unloaded at a great time for a good return.

Markakis Signing - D+ - The length of the contract is a problem. The only way this could move from a D+ to around a B is if we flip him at the deadline or at the end of the year. On the surface, it's terrible.

Kimbrel & Melvin Trade - A - All in all, this is a fantastic trade. Only thing that could drop it to around a B is if we still don't have an adequate closer when we're ready to compete again.

Elander & Reyes Trade - A - This is just a great trade, period. No real negative, and it could be the best move of the year if we flip Cahill.

Hale & Schlosser Trade - C- - What's to like about this one, really? I'll move it up from a D in the hopes Briceno turns out to be worth a damn.

Pierzynski Signing - F - This is an awful signing for a team trying to build chemistry in the clubhouse.

Shreve & Carpenter Trade - B+ - I like this one. Hurts to lose Shreve, but it's a good trade.

Callaspo Signing - D- - This is almost as bad as the Pierzynski move.

Stella! Trade - F - Pretty much my least favorite move of the year. Right there alongside the Pierzynski & Fredi signing.

Kyle Wren Trade - D - Pointless vindictive move.

Fredi Signing - F - Pointless vindictive move.

Overall: C+

PRetty much my thoughts as well.

I forgot to mention letting Graham go. That's a D at best. Only thing that keeps it from a straight F is the hopes that he won't be able to stay in the majors the full year. If he does, an easy F.

I don't like the return for Heyward. I wish we got a better prospect than Jenkins. We went for someone raw who the Braves hope they can fix his control issues and he'll be a true top propsect. I'd rathre have gotten Marco Gonzalez, Rob Kaminsky or Alex Reyes. I'm not a fan of Jenkins and I do think that there's a very real chance we walk out on the negative in that trade. We likely won't, but when all costs are considered, I think 1 year of Heyward is worth more than 4 of Miller. maybe Shelby recaptures what made him a top prospect, but he was not good last year. If he keeps that trend up, and Jenkins remains unable to control his stuff, we got fleeced. I don't think Miller is as bad as he was last year, but I don't think he's better than his rookie season either. I'll wait patiently.

Good call. I forgot that one, too.

Yeah I forgot about letting Graham go. Looks especially dumb after trading Kimbrel. Graham I think will succeed (though get hurt a lot) in the pen.

It was an off season that had no plan. Sign a RF and then trade away a bunch of talented players. Full penetration or nothing at all. Rebuild completely or try and field a decent ball club. That is why this was a bad off season.

I still don't understand why Fredi was not part of the guys hitting the road. I fully understand Wren being fired but for the life of me, I can not understand keeping Fredi.

As for the off season trades. It is very difficult seeing your favorite players go. However, if you are going to do it you have to go all in.

If he's the guy they want to lead the team post-rebuild and back to respectability, I genuinely question their judgement.

I have no problem with the Markakis signing. Paying him $11M to be the only other legit bat in the lineup during the rebuild isn't a terrible idea. Paying him for 4 years IS a bad idea, but at least they didn't have to give up a draft pick to sign him.

I'm going to go ahead and make this prediction right now: Tulo will be the starter at 3B by 2017.

Only reason I won't criticize them for not ****canning Fredi is maybe they truly just don't care about this season. Maybe in their mind, they could lose it all and they wouldn't care? Maybe this year is a last trial for Fredi, if he can maximize the talent of this team he'll get another shot. If not, someone else will get a shot of leading them into the new stadium.

That's the only way that's forgivable if they figure 2015 is a punt year might as well give him one last crack at it.

Solid B+ with a chance to become an A. Loved what Hart said today about that the Kimbrel trade gave the flexibility to maybe accelerate the process.

Yup. When you have a surplus of good young pitching and money to spend, you're in a good position.

I will also point out to those that didn't like the La Stella deal that we likely wouldn't have gotten the chance to find out what we have in Peterson if he'd been kept. Just sayin'.

I don't really understand this reasoning. If the deal turns out to be a bad one, having Peterson will mitigate the damage but won't make the deal any better. If you're worried about blocking Peterson or La Stella, glare at Bert Calypso or CJ.

I'm glad after last September they fought conventional wisdom of " you fire the manager because you can't fire 25 players."

Fredi will be here a long time. I count 8 players on yesterdays active roster that were here last August 30.
