GDT: 4/10/'15 - Atlanta Braves (Stults) vs. New York Mets, Fredi showing off again.

I don't disagree but I'm willing to give Stults some time right now because for some reason I think Martin is going to be better out of the pen than Stults would be. Nothing wrong for a kid to get his first year in the majors out of the pen.

You could get creative I suppose at the deadline if Minor is pitching well and then move Martin into the rotation.

Bravse just have so many options rights now its stupid. Some of it of course is from Wren's tenure so we should be thankful for that but Hart did a masterful job this offseason. Yes, even if the Braves aren't 500 this year.

We can hope Minor has at least one healthy start before the deadline. That might make it possible to get some decent return for him, but I doubt it. Probably looking at unloading Minor after the season now.

Obviously, but point still stands that you dont need a lot of big boppers in the lineup to win.

Braves need two more i think and the rest can be gap to gap contact hitters.

And nobody ever said otherwise in this thread so you really don't have a point

If it's the Wild Card we are in at the deadline, you unload. Only way we can consider something different is if we have the division firmly in our grasp.

The thing is the Braves restocked their system so well this offseason. They also have all these picks coming up and the new international crop of youngsters coming over that they might not need to flip these assets for long term assets. Its just the start of the season of course but this has completely shocked me. A lot of the rest of the season is going to depend on one of Cahil or Minor. I feel comforotable that we are going to get ace type production out of Teheran/Wood and good #2ish production from Miller. If either Cahil or Minor pitches like a middle of the rotation type then the whole season changes.

I just wonder what the Braves through process is. We all know they have an eye towards 2017 with some hope for 2016. Do they sell even if they are in a good situatino come September? Can they turn down a top 100 prospect for either of thoes relievers? Its going to be fascinating.

If Grilli and Johnson have great years, you trade both even if we win the World Series. Feliz is the future now in the closer role. Just ask your boy Clark. :icon_biggrin:

I still think a lot of people are in denial as to how the game is going to be played moving forward. Its not going to be as extreme as what I posted but we are past the PED era.

We indeed are and the strikeouts are still coming in at an alarming rate league wide and I don't think that's going to change that much with pitcher specialization the way it is.

It's going to have to be Cahill. Minor will be lucky to get two starts before the break. Hopefully we get something from him during the second half, though.

You've mentioned Feliz a few times already. I'm curious why you believe this so strongly.

The could really load up the farm system even MORE with Cahill, Minor, Grilli, Johnson and CJ all possible trade baits.

I think they can contend for a WC in 2016, could this year but it really depends on what is getting offered. I'd probably try to unload Grilli regardless. Johnson is only 31, and was a lights out closer before last years disaster.

Hart has made alot of good moves, so we'll see what he thinks.

I kinda agree with Dalyn unless it's in it for the division, i'd sell.

Thats why its so important to have guys who don't strikeout.

In my opinion, Johnson will never be able to handle the closer role again. Not for a competitive team, anyway.

It's important to have good hitters. You don't want to sacrifice power and the ability to take a walk just for the sake of people that put the ball in play to put the point where you get nothing but weak contact.

I think Simmons or one of the other pitchers Hart picked up is the future closer anyway, or an outside FA, idk about Feliz.

But i'd still consider keeping him, he looks really good so far.

I wouldnt be totally surprised if he's cooked but we'll see.

This is two years in a row now where something comes up after having the winter off and takes longer to heal than first thought. I don't like his chances in the near future. Hope he pulls it together well enough to get traded before he needs surgery.

I will gladly sacrifice power if it means that guys are making more consistent contact.

We need a couple power bats, two outfield spots, and 3B depending how Ruiz develops.

Unfortunately, FA market looks pitiful the next two years unless Hart goes for JUp in terms of raw power.
