GDT: 7/31/13 Rockies at Braves

So you'd take Freeman over Kershaw/Wain/Felix?

Honestly, yes.

Pitchers only pitch once every 5 days.

While everyday players play 150-160 games.

So the impact isn't as much.

And when Walker turns int Felix, I'll believe it when I see it.

What's easier to find, an ace or a 290/20-25/810-840 OPS 1B?

Not saying Walker is an ace, just a question in general

Basically you are saying Freeman won't be any better than Adam LaRoche has been.

Why do you think Freeman is as good as he'll ever be?

Minor is pitching like an Ace this year so I guess it's not that hard to find.

Obviously a 1B. But you have factor in the low odds of Walker actually being an Ace.

Freeman only a .810 - .840 OPS? He's at .870 as a 23 year old.

Ok, so with that said, if you think Walker has Felix potential why wouldn't you do it?

As for Freeman, Zito has already covered his numbers. Even if you think Freeman can be a 850-870 guy, you still take the ace

Offer me the ace and I'd trade him. You offered me a non major leaguer.

If the Braves weren't a contending team, I would consider (if they didn't have pitching pieces in place). If he has a 10% chance of being Felix,do you make the trade? 15% 20% 30%?

Freeman has an OPS at 23 of .870. He's shown he can hit for a good average and makes very good, consistent contact. If i had to project, he'd be consistently .850 with several seasons higher. The Braves supposed to give up on the year by trading a very good 1B for a minor leaguer?

You don't consistently win by trading productive, young major leaguers for prospects. You have to keep your good ones.

I'm sorry, but what's wrong with preferring an everyday position player over a player who appears in 32-34 games a year? Not only that, Kershaw is likely about to get a $30 million/year contract. So yeah, give me Freddie everyday of the week. I don't think you trade Freddie right now for Kershaw because of this. Sure...you make that deal if you have a $250 million dollar payroll, but even then I would have heartburn over it because of the number of games Freddie can affect as compared to Kershaw.

It wouldn't just be a Kershaw for Freeman. You'd have to consider who you would be replacing Freeman with as well. If you are downgrading at 1st would it be worth upgrading to Kershaw? I'm not sure it would be. I love Kershaw but we have good pitching, it's not a huge need. This team can't afford to trade the good hitters they have.

Gattis

Which team is better

Heyward
Justin
Mac
Gattis
Johnson
Uggla
Simmons
Bossman

Rotation
Kershaw
Medlen
Minor
Beachy
Julio

or

Jason
Justin
Freddie
Mac/Gattis
Johnson
Uggla
Bossman
Simmons

Medlen
Minor
Beachy
Julio
Wood

To me it's a no brainer. Us having Gattis would make it so if someone went bonkers for Freeman we could absorb it. We shouldn't actively shop and sell Freddie. But we can't pass on him if some crazy trade happened.

Minor is pitching like an Ace this year so I guess it's not that hard to find.

LaRoche is a career 260 hitter with a career 810 OPS. How is that Freeman?

Also, Minor isn't Felix and he's not Walker (in terms of ceiling) and I wouldn't call his season that of an ace.

So you want to take out our most consistent hitter and replace him with a 250 power bat?

We also couldn't resign Mac if we had Kershaw.

I'm not opposed to trading anyone but there is more to consider than just how the team would look on paper.

If someone would take WALKER over minor right now, i think you need to re evaluate things. The odds that Walker is ever as productive as Minor are extremely low.
