GDT: 7/31/13 Rockies at Braves

Why would you trade one of the best young 1st baseman in the NL for prospects? Makes no sense to me.

Then when they develop do you trade them for prospects too? At what point do you keep the young players you develop?

LOL

Wasn't everyone *****ing about how we need to upgrade our pitching? And how we need an Ace? But you wouldn't want the 2nd best pitching prospect in the game? 7th overall? And another top 40-50 prospect?

I would say it's alot easier to find a 290 - 20/25 HR 1B than it is to find pitcher like Walker.

Thank god you aren't frank wren.

Walker has gotten Felix comps, my point is....I'll take the risk on the high end pitcher every time over a 290 - 20/25 HR - 810-850 OPS 1B, every day of the week.

I wouldn't call a 809 OPS a proven stud....and also, lol at saying no to that trade.

Two unproven prospects for one of the top hitters in baseball not in his prime yet.

Yeah, lol at me.

Keep in mind that Freeman has yet to show us what he can do with a full healthy season. Last year, he had the eye problems that affected his swing for weeks or months. This year, he started off red-hot, before the oblique hit him; and now he may have a thumb issue hampering his power a bit. From what I've seen when he's healthy and his swing is "fully loaded", he can hit for both high average and very far power. (I don't know stats like you guys, so I'm at a disadvantage in that respect. Whenever 'OPS' is mentioned, my eyes gloss over and I hear elevator music.)

Pitchers pitch once every five days.

Give me the everyday player who plays 150+ games over someone who starts 30-32 starts a year not counting the playoffs.

We do need to upgrade our rotation but I'm not trading our best hitter for two unproven prospects.

Not like we're talking about a Harvey/Kershaw/Strasburg here.

What are the odds he reaches Felix level? How many ace level pitching prospects flame out every single year? For a team hoping to compete (in the Braves), it makes zero sense to trade a 23 year old very productive 1B for a prospect or 2.

What's easier to find, an ace or a 290/20-25/810-840 OPS 1B?

Not saying Walker is an ace, just a question in general

Obviously a 1B. But you have factor in the low odds of Walker actually being an Ace.

Freeman only a .810 - .840 OPS? He's at .870 as a 23 year old.

I would usually take the pitcher over a hitter myself but not unproven ones. The bust rate for pitchers is very high.
