GDT: 4/12/15 BREAK OUT THE BROOMS (again!)

That's a valid point that we've talked about before. I just think Heyward is worth that and the Braves can afford that. Maybe he intends to Kenny Lofton him. But there aren't many impact position players on the free agent market the new couple of years and the Braves are going to need to sign one if they want to contend in 2017.

Will be interesting who Hart goes after, but certainly need some high impact bats going forward.

Fredi is going to get it coming and going, and sometimes it's going to be unfair, but one has to concede that he's given the critics some ammunition.

I agree that he's going to need to get the most out the guys he has, but it seems like he's got the pieces to be able to double-switch pretty aggressively. Callaspo can play two positions. Jace can play at least 2. KJ can play 2B, IF corners, and LF. EY can play all over the place, ditto Gosselin. Anyone on the field except the C, Freeman, and Simmons can be removed late without missing much of a beat. It's funny to think that we're in a position to be wanting Fredi to manage MORE, but that may be just where we are.

Yeah, that's pretty much my point. If you have this many multiple position guys and Freeman (for his bat) and Simmons (for his glove) are pretty much the only guys you wouldn't double-switch out of a game, Fredi could pretty much be playing Stat-o-Matic with his personnel.

So aside from the years he can't stay healthy or absolutley suck then he's a 2+ WAR player. Gotcha.

You are trying to use his 2012 campaign as some sort of slight against his ability. You portray that as a bad season, when in fact he was playing very well.

He's had exactly 1 bad season. A season in which he played through an injury.

EYJ is a solid 4th OF'er.

He isnt a starter, Maybin should start over him.

Nothing really more to that.

I am under the impression they are going to explore the trade market for those needs. Like the Braves showed this past year, you can be surprised by whose available.

I'd agree to that, i dont exactly know what outfielder they can trade for.

Should be fine on the infield with Freeman, Simmons, and two of Ruiz, Peterson, Peraza at 2B/3B.

C depends how Beth develops, still not against going for Wieters if he isnt very pricy.

Seitzer paying huge dividends so far. Makes one think what could have been the last few years with all the offensive talent and a competent hitting coach and a more balanced lineup.

It's easier to coach younger players whose careers are just starting. Seitzer's words also have the added weight of a whole organization behind it. He's not just one guy trying to tell a millionaire to eat his vegetables.

He's not a terrible player. He's just a terrible defender that has no power anymore. He's been a 1-2 win player for the last 6-7 years. He's now 31, I wouldn't expect him to improve on that. He pretty much has to put up a .350 OBP to offer anything and he's not expected to

The Markakis deal was overkill, mainly the years.

Could have just signed an Aoki type for a year or so.

Markakis was brought in to provide a positive, stable, no-nonsense veteran presence to a young team. His stats and the length of contract are unimportant. He'll be traded away if/when his services are no longer needed.

I'd consider 2011 to be a bad season. His defense was crap that year (still is) and he didnt top 2 WAR in a full season. You can say whatever you want but last year was his highest WAR, 2.5, since 2008. He's an average at best player. Expecting anything more is setting yourself up for failure.

"It's not like it's the first time with Jaime," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said after his club dropped its first game of the season. "It's one of those things where he has got a good arm. It's just putting it all together. Today, we were behind the eight ball. That happens when you've won five in a row and you've used [Luis] Avilan and [Jim Johnson] two days in a row and [Brandon] Cunniff. So we went with what we had."

He had Cody Martin... and used him for one batter

He's a moron.

Unless offseason rules changes instituted the double substitution rule as in Slow Pitch softball - Martin was ineligible to reenter because he was pinch hit for by Kelly Johnson.

Guessing here had Martin hit for himself late in a tie game - well, you fill in the blank.
Fredi bashing fr the sake of Fredi bashing is adorable
