That's a valid point that we've talked about before. I just think Heyward is worth that and the Braves can afford that. Maybe he intends to Kenny Lofton him. But there aren't many impact position players on the free agent market the new couple of years and the Braves are going to need to sign one if they want to contend in 2017.
To be fair, it's been our biggest problem since 2011.
Fredi is going to get it coming and going, and sometimes it's going to be unfair, but one has to concede that he's given the critics some ammunition.
I agree that he's going to need to get the most out the guys he has, but it seems like he's got the pieces to be able to double-switch pretty aggressively. Callaspo can play two positions. Jace can play at least 2. KJ can play 2B, IF corners, and LF. EY can play all over the place, ditto Gosselin. Anyone on the field except the C, Freeman, and Simmons can be removed late without missing much of a beat. It's funny to think that we're in a position to be wanting Fredi to manage MORE, but that may be just where we are.
So aside from the years he can't stay healthy or absolutley suck then he's a 2+ WAR player. Gotcha.

I am under the impression they are going to explore the trade market for those needs. Like the Braves showed this past year, you can be surprised by whose available.
Seitzer paying huge dividends so far. Makes one think what could have been the last few years with all the offensive talent and a competent hitting coach and a more balanced lineup.
Great start to the season, but I just cannot fathom that all the pitchers we sent down or released were worse than Juan Jaime.
You are trying to use his 2012 campaign as some sort of slight against his ability. You portray that as a bad season, when in fact he was playing very well.
He's had exactly 1 bad season. A season in which he played through an injury.
Markakis was brought in to provide a positive, stable, no-nonsense veteran presence to a young team. His stats and the length of contract are unimportant. He'll be traded away if/when his services are no longer needed. The Markakis deal was overkill, mainly the years.
Could have just signed an Aoki type for a year or so.

"It's not like it's the first time with Jaime," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said after his club dropped its first game of the season. "It's one of those things where he has got a good arm. It's just putting it all together. Today, we were behind the eight ball. That happens when you've won five in a row and you've used [Luis] Avilan and [Jim Johnson] two days in a row and [Brandon] Cunniff. So we went with what we had."
