He is getting his hits when he puts it in play. There is no way around that. He is swinging a TON and at bad pitches. That's way more of a factor than a few hard hit balls right at someone.

And was hitting .280 coming into today. Could he be more selective? Sure. But if not for horrendous bad luck, you wouldn't have any grounds to call him out, as he would have been hitting well over .300 with a .500+ SLG.

Part hitting coach and part player characteristics. I think one thing Seitzer probably did was look Chris Johnson square in the eye and tell him to get his head out of his a**. Good bat speed and ability to hit to all fields, but terrible patience and terrible pitch selection.

He is swinging hard and often. When he puts it in play, it's with some authority. The problem is that he is swinging at everything.

After this game, it's easy to say that, given his overall numbers. But coming into the game, I wouldn't agree. He was hitting .280, even with some bad luck on some hard hit balls.
