4/13/15 GDT Callaspo at 2nd, batting 2nd

Why does it "seem" that way?

He got a decent amount of playing time in spring training for someone who hadn't played in AA prior to this year. I know it wasn't a lot but he could have easily stayed on the minor league fields the whole itme.

Power is clearly overrated. There are many ways to win in this game. We tried the power approach and it failed miserably. I at least like this approach to offense. Would have preferred better players, but hey it's a fresh start.

Power guys that are swinging for the fences are overrated.

Like in golf...when you try to hit the ball hard you mess up.

Didn't think this was worthy of its own thread, but it seems like the Yanks may be scouting Peraza. I'm guessing Jeff Wren is THE Jeff Wren who was let go along w/ his brother, so it stands to reason he still has some sources in the scouting community. Peraza would fit an organizational need for NYY no doubt. I wonder what would be in it for us?

@MLBGrapevine

#Yankees redirect scout to Gwinnett to see #Braves Peraza.

If we see Peraza slide over the SS for a couple of games, it may be a better indication of something being up.

This team and the conversation surrounding Markakus hitting third reminds me of the ****storm Whitey Herzog created by hitting Tommy Herr third.
That team too had an road runner at the top of the order a get them around guy 2nd Herr and a big hitting 1B at clean up.
Coleman
McGee
Herr
Clark

EY
Calaspo
Nick
Freddie

The similarities between early 80's Cards and this team are astonishing. Right down to the best SS in the game.
3B on that team was Terry Pendelton

Our big SB guys are in the minors as well. Its going to be so much to watch this team moving forward.

I do like him. I'm concerned about the power but the points made about him still gaining strength from the surgery are valid. I think he is a nice fit for the club.

He's a nice fit on a lot of teams. Obviously I wish he was batting 2nd for us and we had more middle of the order options but he's been solid and come through with RISP so far. I think he's going to start driving the ball more as he gets stronger coming back from surgery.

Getting right down to it he is doing exactly what is expected of a 3 hitter. Come through with runners in scoring position. So far on a fairly consistent basis.

I am confused by those that are disappointed because he doesn't mash. Even some of his RBI's come on bloops. Reminds me of the old saying "line drive in the book"
Agree with whoever it was reminded us earlier that he is fresh off of a neck surgery. He would be in fact swinging at what, 2nd 3rd week of Spring Training levels ?

Problem is that many fans on this board (including myself) have watched baseball primarily in the steroid era where if you didn't have power you were useless. Power is still valuable but since it is scarce there are still many different types of skill sets that are valuable. Braves are identifying this trend and running with it.

Well get back to normal is all I want. Her parents just redid their restaurant, and everyone is freaking otu cause in about a month they'll be open again and ****s heading towards the fan.

Oh, ok. Most girls I've been seing, their "normal" is always freaking out.

who would the yankees have that we would even consider moving Peraza for? Servino? Judge? I don't buy this. Maybe Albies b/c he's farther away and no doubt SS

I'll be pissed if he's traded for Severino or another pitching prospect. I get shopping Peraza if our front office is fully convinced Jace is a long term option. But we better get young controllable OF help. Yankees are desperate for middle infielders. I'd be on board for a Peraza/Judge swap

We also have Albies, who is a bit further away but by all accounts projects as a better hitter than Peraza and is just as fast.

Peraza struggled in spring so i'm guessing the braves are considering just outright releasing him

I knew they kept Ciriaco around for a reason.
