4/17/15 GDT: Maybin getting more burn / Peterson batting 8th

Yeah but career numbers are irrelevant. He is a much different player now than the borderline all star he was early in his career.

I live in Baltimore, I have followed and watched Markakis since he was drafted. We all can agree, he is capable of working counts and putting together some tough at bats. But he cannot do damage to the baseball which is important. He is a slap hitter at this point of his career.

And I think that will result in a much lower slugging percentage, but a higher OBP than in recent years. A smart front office can twist that around and give credit to Markakis for the OBP and blame his surgery for a TEMPORARY loss of power and get a decent return for him.

I suspect that by the end of the season, Markakis will be somewhere around his usual .260-.270 BA and with enough walks to put up a pretty respectable OBP. You'll still have the issues with power and defense, and that still leaves the team with three years and $33 million left for a soon-to-be 32-year-old corner outfielder with no power and a recent health scare.

Is that tradeable? Maybe. We traded Melvin, but then we don't have another beloved, all-time dominant closer to bind to Markakis, so this might be tougher.

No one in the FO cares how many HRs Markakis hits. He's probably gonna be 2nd behind Freeman in rbis.

Power is more than just hitting homeruns, and it's important to every good hitter.

But it's not a precursor to being a good hitter. Not saying he will but a guy with a 380+ on base and hitting with runners in scoring position is a tremendous help to a baseball team.

I wish we had this mentality of refusing to lose when we tanked those games against the Fish.

Also, did anyone noticed that someone stole Freeman's hugs so he took it out on the baseball and now that baseball's family want to sue him for brutal assault on it's face. I never seen him crush one like that and off a lefty as well.
